Ginger makes cancer prevention a reality

Print Friendly

(NaturalHealth365) Ginger is proving to be an effective treatment for cancer. In fact, ginger extract has been shown to have anti-metastatic properties and can inhibit a wide range of cancers. In the near future, ginger (no doubt) will be part of a low-cost, effective treatment option for cancer patients.

Great news for women concerned about breast cancer

A new study that was performed by researchers at the Biological Sciences Department, Faculty of Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, discovered that ginger extract inhibited the proliferation of breast cancer cells – without significantly affecting the normal cells. This promising property of ginger, known as selective cytotoxiciy, has the potential to replace many chemotherapy drugs – on the market today.

This is not the only study to confirm gingers anti-breast cancer properties. Ginger has been shown to positively activate a wide rage of molecular mechanism, working simultaneously to induce apoptosis (cell suicide); activate a pro-apoptosis gene; down regulate cancer-associated proteins and genes; and increase cancer inhibitors.

Ginger has been shown to inhibit many other cancers including colon and rectal cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer.

A natural way to protect yourself against colorectal cancer

A study from the University of Minnesota’s Hormel institute suggests that gingerol is a first rate cancer fighter. In the study, researchers fed mice specially bred to lack an immune system a half milligram of gingerol three times a week before and after having human colorectal cancer cells injected into their flanks. The control mice received no ginerol.

Tumors appeared 15 days after the mice were injected, and 4 tumors were found in the gingerol treated mice compared to 13 in the control mice and the tumors were smaller.

Ovarian cancer cells die under the influence of ginger

Lab experiments presented at the 97th Annual Meeting of the America Association for Cancer, by Dr. Rebecca Lui and her colleagues from the University of Michigan, showed gingerols decimates ovarian cancer cells by inducing apoptosis (cell suicide) and autophagocytosis (self-digestion).

Dr. Liu examined the effect of a whole ginger extract containing 5 percent gingerol on a number of different ovarian cancer cell lines. Exposure to the extract caused apoptosis in all the ovarian cancer lines studied.

Ginger has a positive effect over prostate cancer cells

Meanwhile, over 19 studies have reached similar conclusions on ginger’s anticancer benefits, including exerting significant growth-inhibiting and a decimating effect in a spectrum of prostate cancer cells.

A study out of Georgia State University showed whole ginger extract was able to shrink prostate tumor size by 56 percent in mice. This came with ginger’s ability to reduce inflammation as well as supplying a rich source of health-enhancing antioxidants.

Ginger vs. pharmaceutical drug therapy

According to scientists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, the premium priced drugs are more likely to harm the patient than safe them.

The following statement from researcher Dr. Raghu Kallur sums up the dangers of the standard medical protocols for patients: “Whatever manipulations we’re doing to tumors can inadvertently do something to increase the tumor numbers to become more metastatic, which is what, kills patients at the end of the day.”

Therefore, finding ways to incorporate ginger into your diet may be a lifesaver, the myth that only standard treatment can directly affect the outcome of cancers progression is a blatant lie.

Ginger is recognized for its antiviral, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger has a high concentration of active substances, which means you don’t have to use a large amount to receive its beneficial effects; all it takes is one or two ½ inch slices of fresh ginger in a cup of hot water for relief of stomach ailments.

Adding some fresh ginger to some of your recipe means getting more than flavor; it will assist with digestion, detoxifying and most importantly cellular health.

I juice twice daily and at least one of those juices includes a small hung of ginger. I originally considered this to be anti-inflamatory and anti-coagulate but its great to know that there are other wonderful benefits.

As a side note lets see if Ginger Ale marketers try to work this angle to sell more soda pop.

What a pity we’re still torturing animals and giving them cancer artificially, just so that humans can benefit.
Surely with such safe things as ginger, experiments could be done on humans?
It should be quite easy to get diseased patients to eat various substances, in tablet form, such as in double-blind placebo controolled studies and come to fairly quick conclusions as to benefits of including such natural substances.
This could easy be done with a whole range of diseases. With large numbers participating I’m sure that there would be be much quicker and more scientific results.

Too bad all the ginger I find in the stores here are imported from China. I refuse to buy ginger or any food from China. Does anyone know where can I find locally grown or North American grown ginger in Ottawa, Canada?

“ALCOHOL/WINE” HEALTHY? Even small amounts can increase your chances to get cancer and lower your risk of getting other health problems.
Media health reports are often deceptive, inaccurate or biased, and individuals cannot make responsible choices about their health –or advising others – if not given the facts. Politics, monetary gain, and the need for sensationalism often influence what is reported. There are times when the announced outcome of a particular study is not even the same conclusion as the researcher/s. Omitting the dangers can make a study appear to be a positive one, and a single study is often presented as an absolute, with no mention of the other available studies showing different outcomes. Drug companies are required to submit only 2 positive drug studies for the FDA to consider acceptance, with no mention to the public about any other studies that may have shown risks. Do your own research, educate yourself so you can make healthier choices.
Alcoholic beverages are now classified by our government as a class “A” human carcinogen, along with arsenic, asbestos, tobacco, etc., and the presence of alcohol hastens the breakdown of antioxidants in the blood, speeding their elimination from the body. Antioxidants, such as resveratrol, possibly have benefits, but that does not translate into wine being healthy. The “American Institute for Cancer Research” tells us that alcohol is a tumor-promoter and that cancer risk may be increased by drinking ‘any’ amount of alcohol. There have been no clinical trials to prove that alcohol can be healthy, only by association/observation, which is how HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) was erroneously shown to be healthy for women.
The ‘French Paradox’ was disproved many years ago by the World Health Organization (WHO), and other health organizations, because of faulty data. It should cause public concern that the true facts have not been reported in order to balance the “Wine Good for You” vs. “Wine Bad for You.” Health studies are often skewed, as in the studies about wine. Wine drinkers, as a group, have a healthier life style in general (not inclusive of the wine) and the ‘sick quitters’ are often counted in the non-drinkers. These many facts should cause the public to question any possible positive effect of alcohol. Evidence shows that alcohol use is dose related, smaller amounts do less damage but there is still harm from even smaller amounts. Studies suggest that smaller amounts of alcohol/wine may lessen the incidences of the ischemic stroke (the stroke that is most prevalent), but it increases the risk of having a hemorrhagic stroke, which does more damage. Using alcohol to relax? This is not true relaxation, it anesthetizes or drugs the drinker and inhibits his/her cognitive ability. It may seem to help with sleep but actually interferes with sleep. Alcohol also destroys an enzyme that is needed for contraction of the heart.
Your health is your most prized possession, ask anyone who doesn’t have it. As the Pharmaceutical Companies are increasing their power and control, there will be more deceptions. They encourage the use of harmful drugs, while discouraging natural therapies, cures and prevention. We are told by the government that over half of the conventional drugs & therapies that are now used have not been sufficiently studied, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and side effects.

Here is added information about Immunization:
It is not the government’s business what drugs you or I choose to inject into our bodies at any age
*Immunization Warning: Do you realize that before the age of 6, our children get 49 doses of 14 vaccines before the age of 6 (National Vaccine Information Center). Many of these vaccines have traces or larger amounts of the following, depending on the specific vaccine (this is only a partial list): lab altered viruses and bacteria, aluminum, mercury, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, gluteraldehyde, sodium borate, sodium chloride, sodium acetate, monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrchloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, lactose, gelatin, yeast protein, egg albumin, bovine and human serum albumin. Before you take the risk, find out what is in the vaccine.

  • Leslie

I havé been eating copious amounts of ginger but my breast cancer which was discovered in 2011 still came back very very quickly. I did not do chemo or radiation instead relied on changing my diet drastically. I have other health problems that cleared up, but the cancer returned even more aggressively. I had a 4cm tumor removed in January 2011 and this month I had my whole breast removed as the whole thing was just one big chunk of cancer according to pathology. So I am still eating lots of ginger. But maybe to be really effective the ginger should be injected like chemo? So I have decided to do chemo. Natural stuff didn’t work. Not that I will stop juicing, coffee enemas, etc, maybe they helped make sure it didn’t metastasize?

  • Bill

Thank you Leslie for that honest but painful report. I too am a cancer patient who had a colon tumor removed 3 years from this coming Feb. I did not take the prescribed chemo & radiation treatments and I believe that was the right choice. My tumor was contained and they removed it. I thought I was free of the problem? After a few months, I was feeling very good, but,I did not practice my regiment of good health for the last year and now it has reserviced in my Liver!I MADE A BIG MISTAKE!
What I’m really trying to say is: Trying in a diciplined planned manor to stay cancer free or to keep your cancer in check (not allowing it to metastasize, so it can be healed or removed) should be our number one objective. This week my “pet scan” showed that three areas of concern are contained. I will be getting a “biopsy” end of this week and then decide what other procedures I will take. Folowing any cancer surgery, we must continue to be diligent in keeping everything in balance. Obviously, cancer is a tough thing to deal with but, thanks to the technology and information available to us now, we can have even more hope…….Please don’t leave God out of your hope…He gives answers and comfort.

According to a study ginger extract had significant effects in stopping the growth of cancer cells, as well as in inducing cell death in a spectrum of prostate cancer cells. Natural treatments are also beneficial in prostate cancer.
