Four powerful reasons to eat fiber
(NaturalHealth365) We know that constipation and obesity are linked to a fiberless junk food diet, but little is know about resistant starch – the natural solution to this epidemic. Fiber is one of the beneficial properties of whole foods and scientists are taking a whole new look at its health altering ability to lower cholesterol, control hunger, eliminate toxins, and control sugar levels.
How to avoid overeating – naturally
Resistant starch is a component of dietary fiber that resists digestion in the small intestine and passes straight through to the bowel; it’s this failure to be digested that makes resistant starch so helpful. It works by filling up space in your digestive track, increasing satiety and diminishing your hunger.
When resistant starch reaches the colon, it used for fuel by the bacteria there and this process is called fermentation. Butyrate – one of the enzymes produced by this process – is believed to help prevent colon cancer, balance the pH in the intestines, and help demolish free radicals.
Eating right for cancer prevention and more
Just like other fermented fiber, resistant starch ups mineral absorption and this is especial true of calcium and magnesium, which protects us from developing cancer. Resistant starch improves insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, offering protection from cardiovascular disease. The (health) risk reduction is seen not only in people with known chronic conditions, but in those who are apparently healthy.
Dr. Trevor Lockett, a colorectal cancer researcher in Australia, which has one of the highest incidences of bowel cancer in the world has said that studies suggest increasing the amount of resistant starch in our diet would be a step to reduce the incidence of bowel cancer. It takes about 15 years of the first bowel-cancer initiating DNA damage to become a full-blown bowel cancer, the earlier we improve the diet the better.
Close the door to toxic overload
Whole food nutrition protects the body from harmful and dangerous toxins, which can enter the body through permeated intestines, which happen when the bad bacteria take over and crowd out the beneficial ones. Gut dysbiosis can cause these diverse conditions: fatigue, loss of muscle tone, and allergic reactions.
A poor diet causes immune system problems, which ultimately leads to mitochondrial dysfunction. This is where the body’s energy production is compromised on a cellular level. Health is a simple equation: better fuel (from our diet) creates better health. What resistant starch does is protects the body from harmful and dangerous toxins that can enter the body through the intestines.
Intelligent food choices for intelligent people
Since resistant starch is associated with lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, promoting “good” bacteria and suppressing “bad” bacteria, and promoting bowel regularity – it is obvious that we need to eat foods rich in resistant starch.
So, if you care about your health, start eating organic (non-GMO) bananas, corn, potatoes, yams, pearl barley, navy beans, oatmeal, lentils and brown rice. Navy beans have the highest amount per half cup – followed by bananas as the second highest, yams and potatoes are next on this list. Most whole foods in the grain and bean category will provide this indispensable fiber.

Digestive healing from nature
(NaturalHealth365) Soothing the tummy isn’t easy when we make poor food choices. Our stomach was never designed to hold the amounts of food we consume in modern times. Cookies, cake, candy, chips and larger meals make it difficult to remember that less is more. But nature has help for us.
Clearly, we must stop treating our digestive system like a garbage dump. Fortunately, nature has created peppermint leaf tea to ease our troubles. Peppermint tea provides relief for indigestion, dyspepsia and colonic muscle spasms with a cool (refreshing) taste.
Peppermint oil has a “secret” (powerful) ingredient
The active ingredient in peppermint oil is menthol, which is known to relax the valve between the stomach and esophagus, allowing trapped gas to escape upward, which relieves unwanted pressure. Also, menthol is a natural anesthetic, which has the ability to block pain and nausea symptoms by numbing the nerves in the intestines including those that prompt nearby muscles to contract.
It looks like peppermint spells relief, because of menthol’s anti-spasmodic activity. By suppressing muscle contractions in the stomach and stimulating the production of bile, which is needed for digestion it provides relief from gas, bloating, and pain.
The importance of reducing inflammation
Peppermint in laboratory setting showed an ability to reduce inflammation that may lead to colitis, and speed the emptying of the stomach. In a paper published in Journal of Gastroenterology, volunteer subjects that consumed a meal containing peppermint oil experienced faster gastric emptying than other subjects who took a placebo.
In a review of nine clinical trials published in Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the authors concluded that subjects using peppermint and caraway oil for indigestion had a great improvement in their symptoms.
Eliminate (unwanted) bacteria in your gut – naturally
Essential oil of peppermint stops the growth of many different bacteria including Helicobacter pylori, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, MRSA, and the growth of certain kinds of fungus. This alone prevents some nasty intestinal problems and visceral pain.
Since peppermint delivers a wide range of nutritional support it is a wonderful way to create health, while experiencing relief. It is a source of manganese, vitamin C and vitamin A, fiber, folate, iron, magnesium, and calcium. In addition, peppermint has omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B2, potassium and copper. (not bad, huh?)
A healthy way to lower your risk of organ tumors
The phytonutrient Montertpene is abundant within peppermint oil and has been shown to stop the growth of pancreatic, mammary, and liver tumors, while protecting against cancer formation in the colon, skin and lungs in animal studies.
This phytonutrient has been shown to in lab studies to prevent the carcinogenesis process at both the initiation and progression stages. This means it may be effective in treating both early and advance cancers. Peppermint leaf may be a way to protect your stomach while protecting your life.
It’s high time we take peppermint leaf seriously and start adding it to our diet. From a cup of peppermint tea to chopped mint leaves in cooked dishes, soups or as a condiment for vegetable or fruit salads – nothing could be a quicker way to perk up meal.

Why hospitals are silent about natural foods
(NaturalHealth365) Hospital food is sickening! Factory-farmed (chemically “enhanced”) meats, toxic dairy products and genetically modified foods have NOTHING to do with optimal health and healing. In fact, it doesn’t take much of an imagination to believe that unhealthy foods could be the secret to hospital (business) “success”! (Sick people for life)

The powerhouse of cruciferous vegetables
For over 2,000 years, Kale has been cultivated by Europeans and it arrived in the United States by the 17th century. Packed with phytonutrients (the best kind of antioxidants), Kale helps to neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. In fact, scientific research suggests that eating cruciferous vegetable (like Kale) will reduce your risk of certain cancers!
Kale belongs to the same family as cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and collards. There are many types of Kale including: green, white, purple, or bluish green. Most of the cruciferous vegetables are loaded with vitamins A, C, and K plus they’re delicious! (I like to lightly steam Kale and eat it up)
The best reason to eat your vegetables
Phytonutrients, found in cruciferous vegetables, help the liver to detoxify our body of unwanted chemicals – everyday. Without phytonutrients – your life is in danger. We are constantly bombarded with poisons in our air, water and food supply. Pesticides, genetically modified foods plus much more act as “endocrine disruptors” – which threaten every aspect of your life – from cellular communication to growth and repair.
A diet rich in fruits and vegetables has been (scientifically) proven to protect human cells from oxidative stress, which is the main reason for aging throughout our body – including the brain. The Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University found that carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables were the best phytonutrient (health protective) foods on the planet.
Keep in mind, a plant-based diet can help you slow down the aging process; boost your immune system and lower your risk for cancer and heart disease!

Nutty great news for your health

(NaturalHealth365) In a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, researchers found that people who consumed tree nuts such as almonds, Brazil, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios and walnuts had higher levels of high-density lipoproteins (“good” cholesterol) and lower levels of C-reactive protein – an inflammation marker.
Good news with a warning
This study looked at 13,292 men and women aged 19 and up who participated in the National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys. These results were based on consumers who consumed 2 1/4 once serving of nuts per day.
One of the findings was that individuals that consumed tree nuts has a lower body weight and body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference compared to those that didn’t consume any of the above mentioned nuts. Just don’t overdo it – nuts can be difficult to digest – in some people. (and chew well)
A nutty way to lower your risk for heart disease
At least five large human epidemiological studies including the Nurses Health Study, the Iowa Health Study, the Adventist Study and the Physicians Health Study found that nut consumption is linked to a lower risk of heart disease.
The research from the Nurses Health Study estimated that substituting nuts for an equal amount of carbohydrates would result in a 30% reduction in heart disease. Then, they calculated a reduction in fat from saturated sources (such as meat and dairy products) would bring a 45% reduction in heart disease. Some of the reasons for these findings can be found in the different varieties of tree nuts.
You can go nuts over the nutritional value
Almonds alone have heart benefits and that may be due to their vitamin E content and 99mg of magnesium along with 257 mg of potassium. Magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker, and potassium helps keep high blood pressure in check.
Brazil nuts contain exceptionally high levels of selenium, 100g of nuts add around 1917 mcg of selenium and 345% of the recommended daily intake making them as highest natural source of this mineral. Selenium is an important cofactor for anti-oxidant glutathione peroxidase. This is an important factor in protecting blood vessels from oxidative damage.
A delicious way to help prevent disease
It just takes 1-2 Brazil nuts a day to provide enough selenium to help prevent coronary artery disease, liver cirrhosis and cancers. They also are an excellent source of B-complex riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, vitamin B-6 and folates.
Walnuts have an unusual and very beneficial form of vitamin E, gamma-tocopherol. In several studies, gamma-tocopherol has been found to provide significant protection from heart problems, and walnuts have an exceptionally high level. Walnuts decrease LDL (“bad” cholesterol), improve endothelial cell function, decrease platelet aggregation rate, decrease C reactive protein.
Pine nuts are especially rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid, which helps lower LDL and increase HDL the good cholesterol. Pine nuts contain the essential fatty acid pinolenic acid, which also has been shown to have LDL lowering properties.
Cashews have a lower fat content than most of the other nuts, and 75% is unsaturated fat, which contains 75% oleic acid the most heart healthy monounsaturated fat. The evidence shows that adding nuts (in small quantity) to your menu – four times a week or better – will provide a 37% reduction in coronary heart disease.
We now know the benefits come without a weight gain, in fact a 28 month study out of Spain, found those that ate nuts two times per week were 31% less likely to gain weight than those who never ate nuts.
Nuts contribute to a heart healthy diet, and are one of the healthiest foods to consume. Their favorable effects on human health are well documented, so go enjoy them as a snack, in cereal, on salads and in vegetable dishes.

Chia seeds can add years to your life
April 6, 2012 by Jonathan

(NaturalHealth365) Chia seeds have been valued for centuries for their ability to sustain life, and have been called “Indian Running Food” because of their energy giving properties. If you’re tired and looking for greater energy (plus endurance) – keep reading about this magical super food.
Chia seeds come from a plant with a long history; it was the main component of the Aztec and Mayan diets and one their warriors depended on for survival. The name “chia” comes from the Aztec word for oily which is chian, this makes sense since chia seeds are very high in omega-3 fatty acids. If you want brain power – eat chia seeds.
Look closer at this magical super food
Chia seeds were a major crop in central Mexico until about 900 B.C. when the Spanish conquest changed the culture. Production is being resumed in Latin America, since the seed has become popular (again) due to phenomenal health benefits.
These little seeds have a longer shelf life than most other seeds including flax seeds. Looking to chia seeds for quality fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, minerals and antioxidants is a good idea; chia has the highest amount of omega 3 fatty acids than any other seed.
Seeds that have amazing healing power
The chia seed has a unique combination of nutrients; it is a source of calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and is a complete protein source. In fact, it has more iron than spinach, more calcium than milk and more antioxidants than blueberries. It may be smaller than a pebble, but it is a great way to nourish the body.
Chia seeds have some remarkable properties which work to lessen hunger, cut cravings, and support joint and intestinal health, control sugar spikes, lower cholesterol levels and supply cellular energy.
Improve your digestion with the right foods
The chia seed supports healthy colon activity while helping eliminate toxic wastes. Chia seeds have a fiber content of more than 36% and the remarkable ability to absorb ten times its weight in water, making it a wonderful way to stay hydrated. By hydrating the colon – it makes it easier for your digestive system to move food through the gut and be eliminated in a timely manner.
Insoluble fiber is found in the seed’s outer coating and works like an intestinal sweeper. The outside of the chia seed is covered with invisible tiny fibers standing on end, which trap the liquid to cause a layer of gel to form around the seed.
The liquid is removed slowly by the digestive system, which keeps the colon hydrated while releasing the electrolytes and nutrients, keeping food moist is a way to prevent constipation and diverticulitis.
Inflammation can be eliminated naturally with the right food
Chia seeds contain a good amount of quercetin – an antioxidant known for reducing inflammation – which supports a long, healthy life. Eating a plant-based diet can prevent intestinal dis-ease; improve brain function and increase your energy.
Chia seeds are very versatile and can be added to many recipies including: cereal, soup, salad, yogurt, smoothies, and baked goods. The easiest way to use it is to add it in to any type of blended drink or soak the seeds to make breakfast porridge. Either way – get started and enjoy!

Surprising health benefits of organic popcorn
(NaturalHealth365) Although I wouldn’t rush to say popcorn is a “super food” – scientists have found an abundance of an antioxidant substance called “polyphenols” within this popular snack food.
Joe Vinson, Ph.D., a pioneer in analyzing healthful components in chocolate, nuts and other foods, stated that the polyphenols are more concentrated in popcorn, because the water content makes up only 4 percent, while the polyphenols in fruit are diluted by about 90 percent of its water content.
In addition, the hulls of popcorn – you know that part that gets stuck between your teeth – has the highest concentrations of both polyphenols and fiber. Dr. Vinson said, “Those hulls deserve more respect,” and he further stated, “They are nutritional gold nuggets.”
Popcorn testing has some surprising results
Recent studies find that the amount of polyphenols in popcorn was up to 300 mg a serving compared to 114mg for sweet corn and 160 mg for all fruits per serving. The levels of polyphenols rivaled those in nuts and were up to 15 times greater than whole grain tortilla chips.
Dr. Vinson also pointed out that “one serving of popcorn will provide more than 70 percent of the daily intake of whole grain. The average person only gets about half a serving of whole grains a day, and popcorn could fill the gap in a very pleasant way.”
Popcorn may not have all the essential vitamins and minerals of fruit and vegetables, but as one of the most popular snack foods in the world – it is nice to know it can significantly add to the dietary intake of polyphenols.
Popcorn is a nutritional success story
Popcorn is a dieter’s delight, in calories it comes in at about 108 for a 3½ cup serving. This is impressive since you are getting more than calories; it also provides 10% of your requirement for magnesium.
It is an original “go lean” food for those on weight control plans. There is flexibility to the type of condiments that can be added for flavor such as: high-quality sea salt, garlic powder, chili powder, or just about any dried (organic) herb. Increasing the nutrition power of popcorn doesn’t mean you have to add a whole lot of calories.
Anything from brewer’s yeast to some grass fed dairy butter is used by some health-minded people. Naturally, all of these suggestions are based on plain, air-popped organic kernels.
When Popcorn isn’t really healthy
The trendy use of popcorn including kettle corn, movie popcorn, and chocolate dipped pieces are not in the public interest or a landmine of nutrition. Cineplex popcorn runs from 780 to 1100 plus calories of artery clogging, waistline expanding frankenfood.
Microwave popcorn has been linked to lung disease in factory workers from the exposure of a chemical know as diacetyl which is used to produce the buttery flavors, and consumers who eat very large amounts put themselves at risk.
Anything that negatively changes a healthy nutritious food into a chemically processed one is a threat to our health. Buying plain organic popcorn either from a bulk container or in packaging from an outstanding natural food company is the best way to ensure you are getting all the goodness of the kernels.

Tangerines offer great disease prevention
March 15, 2012 by Jonathan
Filed under Cancer, Food, Healthcare, Heart disease, Natural Healing, Nutrition
(NaturalHealth365) The tangerine is a type of mandarin orange, though smaller in size than the typical oranges. It is a citrus fruit high in vitamin C, and pectin, which is known to increase the beneficial microflora in the gut.
The fibrous white tissue between the segments of tangerines is called lamelia, and this membrane is a great source of soluble fiber known for its ability to reduce cholesterol and protect against atherosclerosis.
While tangerines are known for their heart healthy properties, there is new research, which has found a flavonoid in tangerines, called Nobiletin, which protects against obesity.
In a model of the metabolic syndrome developed by the Huff laboratory at the Roberts Research Institute, Murray Huff, a vascular biology scientist at the Schulch School Medicine & Dentistry, along with Erin Mulvibil, a PhD student, studied the effects of Nobiletin.
In this study one group of mice were fed a “western” diet high in fats and simple sugars. This group became obese and had all the signs associated with metabolic syndrome: elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, high insulin and glucose and a fatty liver.
The second group of mice were fed the exact same diet, but with the addition of Nobiletin and experienced no elevation of cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin or glucose, and gained a normal amount of weight.
Nobiletin was found to prevent the buildup of fat in the liver by stimulating the expression of genes involved in burning excess fat, while inhibiting the genes responsible for manufacturing fat.
Huff reported: “The Nobiletin-treated mice were basically protected from obesity.” “And in longer-term studies, Nobiletin also protected these animals from atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque in arteries, which can lead to heart attack or stroke. This study really paves the way for future studies to see if this is suitable treatment for metabolic syndrome and related conditions in people.”
Protecting your health is easier than you think
Huff’s research uncovered earlier a flavonoid in grapefruit called Naringenin, which provided similar protection against obesity, but as Huff said “What’s really interesting to us is that Nobiletin is ten times more potent in its protective effects compared to Naringenin, and this time, we’ve also shown that Nobiletin has the ability to protect against atherosclerosis.”
On top of all this Nobiletin was found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor invasion, anti-proliferation, and anti-metastasis in studies of cancer cell lines of the liver, stomach, prostate and colon. This is all without being toxic to normal cells.
Being overweight is linked to serious physical ailments like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Weight loss can be aided by the potent life-changing fruits and vegetables nature provides.
Will all the choices of weigh loss supplements and diets, it seems the simplest program available is in the produce aisles. Looking for the bright orange, sphere shaped, and sweet tangerine may help you shed pounds.

Fructose raises cardiovascular risks
(NaturalHealth365)
Many people may be shocked to hear that fructose can actually increase your risk for cardiovascular disease. Even though fructose is abundantly available within our food supply – many health experts agree – be careful!
Both sugar and fructose cause vascular damage. Both can inflict damage to our arteries. Imagine having an ingredient that is worst than processed sugar in just about every processed food we consume.
The rapid absorption of glucose from processed carbohydrates is enough to cause many health problems. Now, we have added a very dangerous sweetener in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. In fact, this toxic (genetically modified) sweetener is being consumed by up to 60 pounds per person per year!
Even in moderation, whatever that means, it can cause or exasperate heart disease, obesity, cancer, dementia, liver problems and diabetes. High fructose corn syrup is an industrial food product, and is not natural. The sugars are extracted from corn stalks through a chemical process.
Fructose doesn’t require digestion; it is rapidly absorbed, and goes right to the liver and triggers the production of triglycerides and cholesterol. This may be behind the fatty liver epidemic. The rapidly absorbed glucose triggers sugar spikes in insulin.
Researchers at the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute discovered that free fructose from high fructose corn syrup requires more energy to be absorbed by the gut and uses up two phosphorous molecules from ATP, which is our body’s energy source. This uses up our energy ATP in our gut required to maintain the integrity of our intestinal lining.
The food we eat is used as fuel. To utilize these fuels the body converts them to energy currency, which is known as adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP). We can’t afford to waste our precious supply of energy.
A warning to our children
Evidence of cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk is present in the blood of adolescents who consume a lot of fructose, a scenario that worsens in the face of excess belly fat, researchers report.
An analysis of 559 adolescents age 14-18 correlated high-fructose diets with higher blood pressure, fasting glucose, insulin resistance and inflammatory factors that contribute to heart and vascular disease.
Heavy consumers of the mega-sweetener also tend to have lower levels of cardiovascular protectors such as HDL cholesterol and adiponectin, according to researchers at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University.
We know excess glucose causes all sorts of problems, now adding high fructose corn syrup to the mix is not only a serious cause of weight gain, but brings on cardiovascular disorders. The cardiovascular conditions occur not only because of weight gain, but from the inflammation that occurs. High fructose corn syrup is the spark, which ignites a raging fire within the body.
Highly processed foods play a significant role in over-stimulating our immune system. In addition, our cardiovascular risk increases with impaired glucose tolerance. Coronary artery disease risk is twice as high in patients with glucose issues. Clearly, clinical studies suggest that high fructose corn syrup is a formula for health disasters.

Resveratrol supports a long healthy life
(NaturalHealth365) In recent years, resveratrol has been the focus of scientific scrutiny. This antioxidant is one of about 8,000 plant based compounds known as polyphenols. Plants evolved resveratrol to defend against stress, infection and the harsh damaging effects of being exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
It is the interaction of oxygen and sunlight that generates free radicals, which gradually dehydrate and break down a plant’s skin. Resveratrol neutralizes harmful free radical activity. This is what makes it so valuable to humans. Topically applied to the skin it eliminates free radicals with 95% efficiency, while vitamin E achieves 65% and vitamin C comes in at 37% efficiency.
Resveratrol is a targeted anti-inflammatory, which provides the body with anti-aging benefits. Polyphenols are nature’s answer to aging gracefully. Topically applied resveratrol protects against not only UVA damage, but also abnormal cellular proliferation. Topical resveratrol combats skin aging by also stimulating healthy cell proliferation and collagen health.
A miracle created by nature
Resveratrol is found in the skins of red fruits, red wine, grapes, peanuts, and berries like mulberries, various herbs, and propolis a honey bee product. It is used to prevent heart disease, and for cancer prevention. The real claim to fame is its ability as an anti-inflammatory with anti-infection capabilities.
Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables can greatly improve your health and appearance. Antioxidants (like Resveratrol) are known to improve the functioning of the estrogen hormone. Estrogen is what keeps women healthy and strong.
A way to turn back the hands of time
Resveratrol has lots of anti-aging benefits – due to its ability to activate a class of longevity genes in the body known as sirtuins. Sirtuins reduce cellular aging and impart to the cells the ability to repair. Many health experts agree that a diet rich in antioxidants will slow down cellular aging; inhibit abnormal cell growth and help to repair damaged cell structure.
Research has shown that the signs of aging can be reversed. In fact, many studies have shown that consuming antioxidants and maintaining a low calorie intake can take the stress out of your life. Generally speaking, a diet dense in nutritional value and low in calories will improve circulation; lower blood pressure; and improve glucose levels.
When tested in randomized double-blind study for 30 days – Resveratrol reduced sleeping and resting metabolic rate in humans. Best of all, antioxidants are known to decrease triglycerides (blood fats) and systemic inflammation. These are just a few of the good reasons to enjoy your red grapes, mulberries, blueberries and cocoa powder – organic, of course!

Breast Cancer drugs fail to help
February 16, 2012 by Jonathan
Filed under Big Pharma, Cancer, Food, Healthcare, Natural Healing, Nutrition
(NaturalHealth365) Breast cancer isn’t caused by a lack of drugs. Simply put, cancerous cells develop from too many toxins going in and not enough toxins getting out of the body. Pharmaceutical drug therapy does NOT take into consideration the true nature (cause) of any ill condition.
Many conventional doctors and pharmaceutical sales reps believe that controlling or suppressing a disease symptom equals proper treatment. But, if you don’t address the underlying cause of sickness – do you really think the problem will ever go away?
Weird Science (and a waste of our money)
Avastin and Sutent are shinning examples of mis-guided science. They are both breast cancer drugs, which do not lead to longer survival rates. In fact, according to a study from Michigan Compehensive Cancer Center, these drugs actually encourage an increase in cancer stem cells!
Researchers found that Sutent (Sunitinib) and Avastin (Bevacizumab) are somewhat successful in reducing breast cancer tumors But, these drug benefits are minimal (at best) and do NOT significantly improve quality of life or longevity for its users. In fact, years after usage, cancer cells have a tendency to return and spread throughout the body.
Study author Max S. Wicha, M.D., wrote: “This study provides an explanation for the clinical trial results demonstrating that in women with breast cancer antiangiogenic agents such as Avastin delay the time to tumor recurrence but do not affect patient survival”.
“If our results apply to the clinic, it suggests that in order to be effective, these agents will need to be combined with cancer stem cell inhibitors, an approach now being explored in the laboratory.”
Dr. Wicha and his team treated laboratory mice with Bevacizumab and Sunitinib. Both these medications stop angiogenesis – the growth and formation of blood vessels that feed a tumor. In addition, they found that these drugs trigger the development of more cancer stem cells.
Stem cells can help a tumor grow and spread; standard treatment is generally ineffective against them. And, of course, what scientists call “standard treatment” is only using anti-angiogenesis drugs.
Avastin, which is FDA approved for several cancers, had its breast cancer therapy approval revoked by the Agency. The FDA said that clinical trials had demonstrated that the benefit of Avastin use was too brief. In other words, patients would rapidly relapse, with their cancer spreading more aggressively. The Agency added that Avastin had no impact on a patients’ survival.
No more secrets – just tell the truth
Common sense tells us that using toxic drugs never get us closer to a cure for cancer. If we continue to overlook the root cause of disease – then doctors and drug companies will not protect us. A strong (healthy) immune system is our best way of preventing cancer.
It’s time for a new (healthier) way of life. Tell our doctors we want natural solutions. Write (or call) our politicians and demand that our money be spent wisely on non-toxic (disease prevention) therapies only. And, above all, make a committment to take better care of ourselves. Remember, we know the answer to cancer prevention is a healthy immune system.
Almost every poor health condition can be reversed with proper nutrition and lifestyle changes. To feel great everyday – avoid vitamin, mineral and enzyme deficiencies, stay physically active and develop healthy (loving) relationships. Life is short – enjoy it!
