Reverse cancer by eating broccoli sprouts

Broccoli Sprouts(NaturalHealth365) Broccoli sprouts can help prevent, even reverse cancer by acting as an antioxidant that stimulates human cells to protect themselves. The radish flavor of broccoli sprouts comes from a phytochemical, which acts as a protector against free radicals. This phytochemical is there to benefit the young plant, but when eaten by humans it stimulates the protective qualities of our cells.

In 1992, a team of John Hopkins University scientist isolated a cancer fighting phytochemical in broccoli called glucoraphanin – a glucosinolate precursor of sulforaphane. This was followed by a discovery that this phytochemical is at least 20 times higher in the 3 – 4 day old broccoli sprouts versus the mature plant.

Discover the anti-cancer effect of Broccoli Sprouts

Broccoli sprouts contain a particular sequence of potent anti-cancer elements even though it actually has a lower nutritional content than the full sized broccoli. The sulforaphane, in the sprouts, work as a catalyst to boost enzymes in the body and these detoxification enzymes trigger ongoing antioxidant action for at least 72 hours. By the way, this antioxidant activity last significantly longer than vitamin C, E, and beta carotene – while boosting the effectiveness of these vitamins.

Using organic, raw broccoli sprouts to build immunity and assist in degrading toxins and riding the body of cancer has proven to be an emerging trend. There are numerous studies that back up this current prospective.

Scientific proof that a healthy diet can shrink tumors

Some skin tumors form after exposure to UV radiation. Mice were exposed to damaging levels of UV light for 20 weeks in a study conducted at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Following the exposure, application of sulforaphane resulted in a 50 percent reduction in the number of mice with tumors. Also, the number of tumors per mouse and the mass of tumors were also reduced.

The real significance of this study is that the chemo-protective agent was given after the carcinogen exposure, which suggested to researchers that this has the ability to prevent the progression of cancer – after the cells have been damaged.

John Hopkins School of Medicine doubles broccoli sprouts sales

We can all thank Paul Talalay’s lab, at John Hopkins School of Medicine, for discovering the health benefits of eating broccoli sprouts. In fact, the lab’s findings were featured on the front page of The New York Times and promoted as “one of the top 100 scientific discoveries of the 20th century” by Popular Mechanics. Once again, good science proves that you can improve your health by eating a healthy (organic) diet. I wonder if Dr. Oz has read this research.

Organic broccoli sprouts are available in natural health food stores and broccoli seeds are available online. In fact, many people are growing broccoli seeds using a jar or a commercial sprouting kit with trays. Protect your health by adding some delicious broccoli sprouts to your next meal and enjoy!
