Surprising whey protein benefits include cancer prevention

Whey Protein(NaturalHealth365) Whey protein benefits are not exclusively intended for athletic people. The truth is whey protein appears to be able to halt a host of pathologies including cancer and HIV. Whey, the major protein found in milk, is also known for restoring and sustaining cellular energy.

New studies show whey to be a powerful cancer inhibitor, which makes it both a preventive agent and a supplement that profoundly affects the growth rate of cancerous cells. Interestingly, whey protein has the ability to temper free radical bioactivity of cancer cells – as proven by its ability to behave like a chemotherapy agent.

If you want to make your body an “unfriendly” environment for cancer cells to grow – then you may want to consider adding whey protein into your diet. Just be sure the source of your whey protein is from grass-fed cows and don’t eat any (unwanted) non-organic milk by-products or food additives.

Protein designed to support a healthy immune system

Lactoferrin, is an immune-boosting protein found in vast quantities in whey protein. Lactoferrin is a scavenger of iron before it has a chance to become oxidized. According to A.S. Naidu, author of “Lactoferrin: Natural, Multifunctional. Antimicrobial”, pathogenic bacteria and fungi feed on oxidized iron, so limiting its levels has a decidedly antifungal effect.

Cancer cells need more iron than normal cells to sustain their abnormally rapid growth. By binding iron, it reduces the chances of the formation of free-radicals, prevents cell damage and can stop cancer from taking hold.

One of the most convenient ways to get a more concentrated form of lactoferrin is by consuming whey protein. Even though lactoferrin can be found in milk – you would have to consume more than would be feasible on a daily basis.

Science is learning how to stop cancer cell growth – naturally

Scientists have used various proteins on rats, which were given a powerful carcinogen, dimethylhydrazine, and only the rats that were fed whey protein experience fewer and reduced sized tumors. In other research, on breast cancer cells, it was shown that whey protein could inhibit cancer cell growth at even lower concentrations.

A clinical study with cancer patients showed a regression of patient’s tumors when given whey protein at concentration levels of 30 grams per day. It is a well known fact that rapid glutathione synthesis in tumor cells is associated with high rates of cellular proliferation and depletion of tumor glutathione inhibits cancer growth.

Whey protein is a compound, which can selectively deplete the cancer cells of glutathione, while increasing or maintaining the levels of glutathione in healthy cells.

This is exciting news – in the world of natural medicine and cancer prevention.

One of the best whole food supplements to maximize glutathione levels is whey protein powder from grass fed cows. Good quality whey protein provides all the key amino acids for glutathione production including cysteine, glycine, and glutamate, while supplying a unique cysteine residue (glutamylcysteine) which is highly bioactive in its affinity for converting to glutathione.

Glutathione occurs in the highest levels in fresh, uncooked meats and raw milk, but is just about absent in pasteurized dairy. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a reliable source of glutathione, but once they are cooked the amounts are negligible.

We, at NaturalHealth365, predict that 2013 will be an amazing year for disease prevention strategies within the natural health world and will continue to keep you informed about the latest research – stay tuned!

My understading is that you should take un -denatured whey protein. Where can you find Whey protein from Grass Fed cows?

  • Jessica

toptenprotein.com has a list of reviews of the best proteins. I do not like to waste my money on the crap proteins.

I am the creator of Action Whey with our proprietary BioCysteine3 (whey protien concentrate from pastured cows free of growth hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, or radiation fallout). The author is slightly incorrect in saying whey is a great source of glutathione. Instead, it is a great source of the three precursor amino acids required for your cells to produce Glutathione intracellular. The key is Cysteine! This one amino acid controls how much your body can produce and it is lacking in most diets. Commercial whey’s have largely destroyed the fragile immuno-components necessary for any real benefit. My product proudly shows our test results for fragile components like Lactoferrin (Lf) and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) as proof we have protected these important nutrients in the final product.

Also VERY important. Just because a whey protein says it comes from grass-fed cows does NOT mean the final product is any good at all. How it’s processed is critical and the consumer should demand proof that the final product protected the fragile immune components. Just because the label says it has Cysteine, there is no guarantee it’s in the desired form for optimal utilization (most likely it is not!). A unique whey compound called Glutamylcysteine is the best form possible for Glutathione production, but it is largely destroyed in most products. Again, always demand to see the final product electrophoretic test results as proof of the fragile immune factors survival to final product. Be well! :)

My concern would be the acid alkaline balance and also to remind people that over 15g of protein per day has been linked to cancer. Keep in mind homeostatis and balance is HUGE when it comes to wellness.

Mercola.com has a quality whey protein product. I am sure you can find others at vitacost.com as well for a discounted rate. I avoid the hyped up bright color sports companies as their products tend to contain a lot of stimulants, and unnatural ingredients.

Looked at top1oprotein.com. Those are good for muscle building. Not necessarily for therapeutic effects. For building you immune system the #1 reason for Whey Protein (should be isolate) is to produce Glutathione. Glutathione is necessary for every cell in your body. Taking Glutqthione won’t work you’re body will break it down and it won’t have the desired results. You’re body has to produce it. Therefore you need the precursors for it. Indenatured Whey Protein Isolate is the answer. Such as MA+..There are over 400 grades of Whey Protein. go to yswaytogo.com for more info.

One World Whey – Synergistic Nutrition. sgn80 dot com. It’s grass-fed, raw, non-pasteurized. My son and I have used it for the last 9 months. We’re both recovering from heavy metal toxicity. Along with clean, non-GMO, organic food, spring water, good fats and food based supplements, I believe One World Whey has been instrumental in our recovery. Our regimen is working and I would not have been able to say that 6 months ago – I thought I would never get better; having many ups and downs. But I see the light for both of us. This is not a quick fix for recovery – healing takes place at a cellular level, so I’ve learned to be patient. It’s a bit sweet (stevia), since I don’t eat sugar, but I’ve become accustomed to the taste. Highly recommended.

Whey protein is the only dairy that is alkaline, so no need to worry about the balance. Undenatured whey protein from NewZealand grass fed coew id the way to go. Whey protien concentrate is better than isolate. Isolate id denatured and most of the good is lost in the process. Try Isagenix

Any comments on the protein powder version of Whey protein.
Isn’t it an isolate and thus inflamatory to the body?

What about whey protein liquid (from organic grass-fed cows) if I can get it directly from a farmer? What is the difference in concentration compared to dried whey protein of the same quality, anybody knows? And if drinking whey protein liquid, how much is a good dose/day?

  • helen

Was not aware that cancer fed on iron. I have primarily cooked with cast iron pans for years. I have cancer… so could this be a connection?

  • Adrian Goad

@SongLinh. Yes! If you can get fresh raw whey from nearby grass fed cows then that is definitely the preferred source. However, if it’s raw, the whey must carefully be handled to avoid spoilage. That’s why it’s easier to drink the whole raw milk or a dried powder of the whey. BUT!! The dried powder is useless if the whey protein structure was damaged as most commercial powders are. You MUST demand proof of this one fact or the anti-cancer benefits are vastly diminished. In fact, in my formulation I actually include WHOLE whey as well to help stay as close as possible to the nutritional profile of the incredible gift from nature, fresh raw whole whey. :)
