Industrial chemicals found in food supply cause cancer

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Whole Grain News(NaturalHealth365) Industrial chemicals are being deliberately put into the American diet. These poisons cause metabolic disorders; hormonal imbalances; and even cancer. Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center and Houston have discovered phthalates, and other industrial chemicals in common foods purchased in the United States.

This is a crime against humanity

“Although it’s not completely understood how phthalates get into our food, packaging may be a contributor to the levels of the toxin in the food, “ said lead investigator Arnold Schecter, M.D., M.P.H., professor of environmental health at The University of Texas School of Public Health Dallas Regional campus.

Nobody wants to believe that toxic chemicals are being intentionally put into the food supply – but why haven’t they been removed when discovered? C’mon, something is not right with this picture!

The story that nails the coffin shut

This is the first study to compile an analysis of phthalates found within the American food supply. National Institutes of Health researcher Linder Birnbaum, Ph.D. senior author on the studies publication in the online edition of Environmental Health perspective said, it’s not a cause for alarm, because the amount found in the food falls below what the Environmental Protection Agency considers safe.

Are you kidding me? Does anyone feel “safer” with comments like this?

However, she said it is a cause for concern because these toxins and others do not belong in the food supply or our bodies. A sample of 72 commonly consumed foods included pizza, meats and beverages, researchers detected some level of phthalate in every food product they sampled, Schecter said. I wonder if anyone is listening?

In other studies, Schecter and his colleagues have found polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) a flame retardant along with the bisphenol A in butter and its paper wrappings. Since butter is used in many foods – it’s clearly a formula for disaster.

By the way, this crap leaches out of many commonly used plastics and electronic devices. It’s everywhere. It’s no wonder why we all need to consider detoxifying our body – on a regular basis.

How could anyone really debate the safety of BPA?

More than 200 lab animal tests suggest something entirely different then the conclusion, which states low levels of BPA are safe. In experimental studies, BPA exposure has been shown to disrupt multiple metabolic pathways and increase body mass in relation to doses.

A University of Missouri study shows that exposure to BPA has been underestimated in previous lab test. In the study, researchers compared BPA concentrations in mice, which were given a steady diet supplemented with BPA throughout the day, compared to the more common lab method of single exposure, and found an increased absorption and accumulation of BPA when it is given on a steady basis.

By the researchers continuously exposing the mice to BPA through their feed, which is considered the primary route of exposure in animals and humans, a significant greater increase in the active form of BPA ensued when fed multiple times. They concluded this is the greatest threat – as it is the form that can bind to reproductive hormone receptors and exert adverse effects. Gee, I wonder, could this be why so many young couples are having trouble with having a baby?

The serious health risks associated with BPA ingestion strongly suggest that there is no safe dose. It is linked to a staggering number of diseases including breast cancer, prostate disease and cancer, diabetes, obesity, hyperactivity, compromised immune function, impaired reproduction, lower sperm count and defects, chromosome defects, Down’s syndrome, early onset of puberty, impaired learning and memory, and increased aggression.

Protect yourself from BPA

You might want to call this the “anti-cancer” regiment – since you will have to give up bagged, canned, and pre-packaged convenience foods.

Virtually all of the foods on the standard American diet are packaged and most have a long list of ingredients, which in of themselves may be coming from BPA laced containers.

The safer option is to stop buying packaged foods and focus on eating (only) fresh, unpackaged foods. Look for food in bulk bins and look for sauces, beverages and supplements sold in glass bottles. Remember, you have the purchasing power and control to make wise decisions. No one says this is easy – but is it worth it?

Is there an email address or website that I can go to with personal health questions to be answered by a doctor or health expert? Unless one knows personally a doctor or a nurse for occasional health issues, it is not always easy to go to a doctor when in need, especially on the weekends, or for those who live in rural areas.

    Thank you,
