Autism risk can now be predicted in its earliest stages

Autism Risk(NaturalHealth365) A study out of UC Davis MIND and Yale University School of Medicine found that the placenta could be an excellent indicator of autism risk in children. More than 95% of placenta from infants – who were among the greatest risk of developing autism – contained abnormal cells known as ‘trophoblast inclusions’.

Testing the placenta for this, particularly if you already have children with autism, could help you determine if early intervention programs should be started at a younger age rather than waiting for a diagnosis – when the child is already several years old.

It can also be helpful if you are on the fence about giving your child vaccines. Since mitochondrial disorders are more common in children with autism and vaccines have been associated with autism in these cases, it’s best to be armed with this information.

How trophoblast inclusions help to predict autism

Trophoblasts are specialized cells present in fetal tissue and form the conduit for interaction between mother and fetus. Trophoblast inclusions are not normal and are marked by cell clusters that will look like the tissue is folded within the placenta.

Researchers believe that trophoblast inclusions are a symptom of altered physiology or genetic predisposition, particularly because they are already associatiated with other genetic chromosomal abnormalities that are likely triggered by environmental exposures.

The placentas of the at-risk mothers of children with autism contained as many as 15 trophoblast inclusions, while the placentas from the control pregnancies had at the most two. One of the researchers stated that this is most likely the first indication of a non-genetic biological marker of autism as early as birth.

The dangers of inflammation during pregnancy

Placental inflammation typically results from bacteria ascending into the uterus and is most often associated with prolonged labor.

A study published in Pediatrics discovered that preterm babies who were born to mothers with placental inflammation were later tested using the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers. (M-CHAT™) 70 percent of these children showed impairments in communication and social interaction; particularly joint attention, interest in other children, responding to name and imitation.

Growth restriction of a fetus because of deficient placental function leads to low birth weight and these children are at an increased risk of developing autism. This holds true for premature infants as well.

Can the placenta be used to help heal our children?

In many cultures, the placenta is actually consumed by the mother and many mammals do this as well. In homeopathy, the placenta can be turned into a remedy that can help both child and mother heal.

The placenta remedy is considered to be the child’s perfect constitutional remedy throughout their lifetime. The placenta contains all the characteristic properties of the person it nurtured in utero including any infections or imbalances.

Hospitals will provide placenta to you if you ask. This can be sent to a homeopath to be made into a homeopathic remedy for your child for them to use throughout their lifetime. If you had your child years ago before this was ever discussed – do not be discouraged. There is a homeopathic remedy called placenta that I have used for many children with good results.

Can mothers actually avoid postpartum depression?

Midwives have been recommending the use of placenta to help mothers overcome postpartum depression. In this case, the placenta is dried and emulsified and then placed into capsules that can be taken by the mother for several months after giving birth. This process is known as placentophagy.

Placenta passes nutrients between mother and fetus and when expelled at birth is rich in chemicals that can help mitigate fluctuations in hormones believed to cause postpartum depression. Since they contain your own hormones, it is a perfect match for your body.

Are you feeling a little squeamish – right now?

You are not alone, but if you are interested in a natural way to potentially help ward off postpartum and have your child’s constitutional remedy for life, it’s definitely worth considering.

That’s so interesting about the inclusions in the placenta. There should be standard training to OBGYNs so that they can catch this right away as you stated in your article so early intervention can be started as soon as possible. In my state, it is 0-3 so it doesn’t hurt to start ASAP.
