To improve absorption, be sure to take curcumin with a dose of healthy fats like, avocado, coconut or olive oil and, if you can, try to use fermented turmeric – in a high acid base – for the highest possible absorption rate.

    I buy fresh organic turmeric from the bulk produce section of a local health food store. I put a small piece through my juicer with carrots, beets and some greens.

    Since, curcumin is the main component of turmeric I am using a whole food, rather than a supplement.

      Gail, thank you for this tip. I have never done juicing and am still learning about it.
      You mention here that you prefer ingesting whole food (when it comes to tumeric). As I understand it, juicing is not a whole food approach (because roughage, etc. is left behind). So might you comment on your choice to juice, over say, using a power mixer (like BlendTec or Vitamix) to liquify nutrients, but still eat all that’s within them? (This is not at all intended as a criticism, because I know far too little to do that!)

    Christine M. Dionese, the research you have presented here is valuable (& would that it were publicized as overwhelmingly as pharmaceuticals are!). The recommendation to take curcumin with healthy fats is new to me, and I am glad to know it.

    I am wondering how valid the idea is that one “must” consume curcumin with bioperene, else curcumin’s active ingredients are not activated. If you happen to check these comments and care to respond, your perspective on this matter would be welcomed.
