Juicing lettuce has surprising health benefits

Lettuce Juice Benefits(NaturalHealth365) Most of us are eating “salads” and juicing other vegetables on a daily basis, but today, we would like to invite you to add a variety of lettuces into your regular juicing regime. Some of these greens you may not even know exist!

A little secret to share with you. Most of us are juicing the darker leafy greens like kale, spinach and parsley – but Dr. Norman Walker, one of the world’s leading nutritionist, told me back in the 1960s that we need to seriously focus on the “lettuces”. In particular – endive and escarole are a great place to start.

Even romaine is a very powerful green. In fact, its chemical structure has an amino acid profile that most dark greens would envy.

Anybody who has kidney weakness, or inflammation (or even bladder issues) would do very well by juicing a quart or so of these lettuce tonics several times a week. Also, it’s great to drink when you are excessively ‘hot’ or need a good, balanced tonic after or before a workout to give you back the potassium/sodium you will lose.

By the way, if you are interested in losing weight, this tonic will help the body release excessive water weight. My mentor and teacher for many years, Dr. Walker also says this about lettuces:

“When combined with carrot juice, the properties and health benefits of lettuce juice are magnified by the addition of vitamin A in the carrot. Lettuce contains more than 38% potassium, 15% calcium, more than 5% iron and around 6% magnesium. Magnesium has revitalizing powers for muscular tissues, the brain and nerves.”

He goes on to say…

”The organic salts in magnesium are essential cell builders. Our metabolism would just not work without the assistance of magnesium. Lettuce also contains more than 9% phosphorus which is one of the principal constituents of the brain and an ample supply of sulphur – one of the component parts of the hemoglobin of the blood. 8% silicon – this together with phosphorus and sulphur – give us correct maintenance for skin, hair and nails.”

Juicing advocates understand the health benefits of lettuce juice. Why? Because one of the things we are missing in this day of age, are ways to get ‘trace’ minerals into our daily diet. Not just ‘trace’ minerals to use as a supplement, rather, trace minerals, from juicing these lettuces – which are 100% absorbable.

Linda shares her favorite lettuce juice recipe

Try to juice a variety of lettuces, in conjunction with your darker leafy greens. And, don’t forget to include endive, escarole and romaine – for a powerful green juice. Here’s one of my favorite recipes: (serves 2 people)

8 Romaine Leaves

1/2 head Escarole

1/2 head Endive

1/2 head Chicory

1 Cucumber

2 Limes (without skin)

2 Apples

In addition, you can add carrots and radishes to this tonic to deliver even more of a variety of nutrients. Remember, your vital health is your greatest wealth! So, my husband Jay Kordich and I invite you to add lettuces to your regular juicing habits and let us know what you think. (enjoy!)
