MSG disguised health hazard

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

(NaturalHealth365) MSG is the master of disguises, thanks to the ingenuity of the food industry. To ensure sales of this toxic ingredient MSG has been reformulated into other products.

Label ingredients with names like: autolyzed plant protein, autolyzed yeast, calcium caseinate, gelatin, glutamic acid, hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP), hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), monopotassium glutamate, artificial flavor, sodium caseinate, soy protein isolate, textured protein, vegetable protein extract or concentrate, yeast extract glutamate, yeast food or nutrient, and natural flavors have MSG in various amounts.

MSG or monosodium glutamate (MSG) is one of several forms of glutamine acid found in foods, glutamine acid is an amino acid found in nature. Glutamic acid can be present in a wide variety of other additives such as: hydrolyzed vegetable protein, autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed yeast, yeast extract, soy extracts, and protein isolated. The term “natural flavor” is now used by the food industry when using glutamine acid (MSG) without the sodium attached. There is no regulation in place for any labeling that states the percentage of “natural flavor” is actually glutamine acid.

MSG has been investigated due to its widespread use. This is an additive that can be hidden in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, supplements, fertilizer and pesticide products. There is no real way to identify MSG in the above products. This is what the food giants’ count on; people who are sensitive to MSG have a hard time pinpointing the source of their discomfort. That is because of two factors: the first one is the illegal and misleading claims stating “No MSG” and the second compounding difficulty is the fact that fertilizers, pesticides and plant growth formulations contain MSG and the residue is on the crops.

MSG on Crops

MSG can be sprayed on crops without restriction, and with no limit on the amount of MSG that can remain in or on fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, and nuts when brought to market.

AuxiGro® WP Metabolic Primer (AuxiGro), was the first MSG plant growth enhancer to reach the market. It was approved for spraying on just about every crop, without restriction to either the amount of processed free glutamine acid (MSG) allowed to remain in or on the crops that were sprayed. The Truth in Labeling Campaign had received complaints from consumer who became sick from the potato and head lettuce crops. For the plants to be stimulated to grow the chemical must be absorbed into the fruit, nuts, seeds, and vegetables.

Amino acids in nature occur in balance. The use of free glutamic acid on crops throws the amino acid balance off. This glutamic acid being spayed is a synthetic product. The long term effects are unknown. This is true of most R & D projects under the guise of pharma and biopharma development.

MSG Reactions

So far the reactions that have been reported range from simple rashes to trouble breathing. The severity may depend on the amount ingested. The reactions can be immediate or occur hours later. Also, the way some people react may be tied to how sensitive they are to the MSG in the food.

The collaborated data suggests that the reactions can happen in just about any system. This means there can be cardiac, circulatory, gastrointestinal, muscular, neurological, visual, respiratory, urological, and epidermal reactions.

Listening to the industry leaders you would think there is nothing to investigate. From the standpoint of industrial research you find only what you are looking for, biopharmaceuticals are looking for market share and profit. The eco-friendly pitch doesn’t translate into any actual concerns for the environment or the consumer.

We do appear to be betwixt the Devil and the deep blue ocean here, Blanche. What is your take on rectal prolapse disease? Could MSG be a subtle factor precipitating it from your wide range of experience? I operate a health training institute in Jamaica and would love to invite you to do a presentation but our funding is limited. If ever you decide to take time out in the Caribbean, do make it Jamaica and contsct me. I could probably arrange a sponsor for a weekend or three days accomodation, and have an area of land on which camping could be done for a longer term period. You could participate in my mountainside vegetable dining course adding your own condiments and make a contribution to the Institute. Such a sojourn might awaken insights for your activities. My tel no is:876-854-8429

I hope there will be legislation to stop using MSG in all forms on food. I am allergic to it.
