Are “gain-of-function” experiments the source of the COVID-19 pandemic?

(NaturalHealth365) Where did COVID-19 really come from? Did it originate, as popular theory suggests, in Wuhan’s animal market? Or is COVID-19’s origin story more complicated and controversial than that?  For example, could “gain-of-function” experiments lie at the root of the coronavirus pandemic?

At this point, six months after the first coronavirus case was detected in the U.S. and as Europe braces for a second wave and the prospect of reimposed restrictions, we are no closer to knowing the truth behind the source of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The origin of COVID-19: Nature versus nurture

Whether or not COVID-19 is a manmade or naturally evolved virus has become an increasingly contentious question.  Unsubstantiated claims, finger pointing and the weight of evidence have turned COVID-19’s origin story into an Orwellian web of politics … a hall of mirrors in which truth and reality is increasingly distorted.

Take, for instance, the idea that COVID-19 leaked out of Wuhan’s biological safety lab (BSL-4) and into the population. It’s an idea that isn’t controversial or conspiratorial once you understand what “gain-of-function” experiments are and how the biotech industry and military industrial complex have used them throughout history.

The disturbing truth about “gain-of-function” studies

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, gain-of-function studies improve the ability of a pathogen to cause disease.  Read the bold (again) – in case you missed this crucial point.

It’s research that “helps define the fundamental nature of human/pathogen interactions, thereby by enabling assessment of the pandemic potential of emerging infectious agents.”

Due to biosafety and biosecurity risks, gain-of-function studies were prohibited in the U.S. from 2014-2018, but a moratorium on the controversial experiments was rescinded on December 19, 2017.

In other words, while COVID-19 could have naturally evolved, it could have just as easily been nurtured in a lab, the result being a biotech juggernaut that’s killed more than 600,000 people and sent the world into economic meltdown.  For more information about this topic: Check out our NaturalHealth365 article – featuring the comments made by Judy Mikovits, PhD.

In fact, a recent study authored by University of London Professor Angus Dagleish and Norwegian virologist Birger Sorensen claims that Sars-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19, did not evolve naturally but rather was artificially manipulated, alleging that the spike proteins of the virus contain “inserted sections.”

Are gain-of-function experiments a euphemism for biowarfare research?

Gain-of-function experiments on bat viruses go back decades. In 2008, an article in the Journal of Virology reported that Chinese and U.S. scientists genetically engineered SARS-like viruses from horseshoe bats, enabling the viruses to gain entry into human cells.

In some circles, gain-of-function experiments are just a clinical euphemism for biowarfare and biodefense. Deadly, infectious agents can’t defend us from pandemics.

Until the Disinformation War between scientists, politicians, and the mass media is over, transparency concerning the origin of COVID-19 will be as elusive as a vaccine. In the end, how much does it really matter where the coronavirus came from?

What matters is prohibiting reckless and dangerous gain-of-function experiments that can create Frankenstein viruses and global pandemics. What matters is rooting out the long festering disease in the world’s militarized nations and dangerous biotech industries.
