This is a myth of epic proportions: A lack of calcium (in the bones) does not correlate to a lack of calcium in the bloodstream or diet. And, yes, good science does back up this statement.

Myth #2: Does your doctor believe that calcium supplements will help prevent bone fractures? Sadly, there is little scientific data to suggest that calcium supplementation (alone) can reduce the risk of fractures. In fact, bone density does not equal stronger bones.   • nice preview! I hope I find time on Sunday to listen in – though i suspect I know half of it, the other half will be good to know!
    Major problem as I see it is, not only is the diet wrong, as in over processed, mass-produced, full of pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones, shipped from far away, harvested unripe……. the average American tends to over-indulge as well – and usually not on veggies and salads – while watching TV after a stressful day at work. We eat as we were farmers with few machines, though it is not the old type quality, yet we have sitting jobs.
    I recall well my days/nights working at a nursing home; 10-17 pills for a lot of residents there every morning and the calcium spray into the nose, to prevent osteoporosis in 70 some year old ladies, who were no longer able to walk, much less exercise. What a waste of $$$ cause the spray can only work in combination with physical weight bearing. And calcium without magnesium is a nono in my view. Now i better stop ranting 🙂
