People on a low calorie diet are at a higher risk of having a zinc deficiency. Vegetarians who consume legumes and nuts most likely will meet their zinc requirement – but need to be careful. Everyone should take a little time to evaluate their daily zinc intake.

People with sickle cell disease, gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerated colitis, and short bowel syndrome can have decreased zinc absorption, and increased zinc loss. People who take high doses of iron will interfere with the absorption of zinc and people taking diuretics increase zinc excretion by 60% and deplete their stores of this mineral.

Dietary surveys show that many Americans aged 51 and older, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers do not consume enough minerals – as recommended.

    Could you please give me your opinion on liquid mineral drops. I have started using Trace Minerals Research. I know my mineral levels are very low, I have been tested. I was a figure competitor for nine years. I had a yoyo type diet that consisted of all organic foods but was very restricted. I am now suffering the consequences ( food allergies, fatigue, mood swings, imbalanced chakras, ETC).

    I was on GNLD zinc suppliment and I experienced biscep muscle pains; what could have been the problem? Is it true you have to combine zinc with vit B complex when supplimenting?

    Hello Fauziah Abdallah…Zinc will displace iron. A lack of Fe could potentially contribute to musculature problems, as well as improper circulation,lack of oxygen supply etc.,which could cause muscles to spasm. Mg Citrate is something you may well find to be helpful in relaxing your musculature.Hem iron would be helpful,along with methylcabalamin(B12)while taking zinc. Hope that this is of help to you.
