The harmful effects of fluoride and lead on our children

Fluoride Warning(NaturalHealth365) Approximately 30,000 calls to United States poison control centers concerning acute exposure to fluoride, in children, are made each year. Some researchers state that fluoride is safe while others state that it can be detrimental to health. As with vaccines, researchers will often look at just one factor – is it the mercury, is it the aluminum, but do not really take all the elements into account.

When looking at fluoride, researchers are widening their net to look not only at fluoride but also the impact of fluoride in combination with lead. According to the Illinois Department of Health, elevated lead levels impact one out of every six children under the age of seven – so this seems like a good link to study.

Major warning by researchers about the dangers of fluoride

Researchers from Harvard School of Public Health and China Medical University in Shenyang for the first time combined 27 studies and found strong indications that fluoride may adversely affect cognitive development in children. The authors state that this risk should not be ignored, and that more research on fluoride’s impact on the developing brain is warranted.

The average loss in IQ was reported as a standardized weighted mean difference of 0.45, which would be approximately equivalent to seven IQ points for commonly used IQ scores. Children in high-fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-fluoride areas.

The deadly connection between fluoride and lead

In research published in the International Journal of Environmental Studies, researchers studied lead screening data from 280,000 Massachusetts children. They found that average blood lead levels are significantly higher in children living in communities whose water is treated with silicofluorides. Data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Evaluation Survey and a survey of over 120,000 children in New York towns confirm this effect.

The Archives of Oral Biology reported a study that was performed on rats. The rats were divided into two groups – one given just fluoride and the other given fluoride plus lead. The second group presented with more severe enamel defects compared with the fluoride only group. Researchers concluded that lead exacerbates dental fluorosis in rodents suggesting that co-exposure to lead could impact the degree of fluorosis.

A study out of Russia corroborates the Oral Biology study. The researchers discovered that fluoride and lead reciprocally attenuate their harmful effects on the bone tissue when there is combined exposure. They also discovered that if the exposure occurs at separate times, the lead and fluoride are more toxic for soft tissue.

According to Toxicology, fluoride chemicals added to public water supplies, boosts lead absorption in lab animals’ bones, teeth and blood. The lead researcher stated that exposure to increased amounts of lead and fluoride occurs at about the same age (1-3 years). He states that this is a critical time when systemic exposure to fluoride should be minimized since fluoride may increase lead accumulation.

How do I remove fluoride from the body?

Iodine has been shown effective in detoxing from fluoride. If this is done, calcium and magnesium supplements should be used to help with the calcium loss from bones.

In CEASE Therapy, we utilize many different supplements to help people detox from fluoride. In the case of joint lead and fluoride toxicity, we strongly recommend seeing a practitioner who is skilled in using DMSA to remove lead from the body and using CEASE to help with the fluoride piece.

Lead has been linked to autism and ADHD and excess fluoride has been associated with lower IQ. If your child has learning or behavior issues, please see a health care provider that will check for these issues.
