Traffic pollution threatens the health of our children

Pollution Dangers(NaturalHealth365) The University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles recently released the outcome of a study performed to determine if there was a link between pollution and autism. The study looked at people living near freeways and examined how far away people lived from streets, how many cars frequented nearby roads and where the pollution came from.

Results indicated that those exposed to the highest levels of traffic-related air pollution while in utero or as a baby were three times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than those who were exposed to low levels of pollutants.

Published in 1995 in Canada, the book ‘Turning Lead into Gold: How Heavy Metal Poisoning Can Affect Your Child and How to Prevent and Treat It’ written by Nancy Hallaway, a nurse, with input from Zigurts Strauts, M.D., is an account on how pollutants impacted the development of Ms. Hallaway’s twin boys. In her children’s case, it was exposure to lead that impacted their development and caused autism symptoms. The book chronicles their therapies and interventions until age 6 where Ms. Hallaway begins to see that the children are normalizing.

The lead they were exposed to was from a freeway that was located very close to their home.

In 2011, Environmental Health Perspectives studied the link between autism and proximity to freeways and discovered autism was associated with residential proximity to a freeway during the third trimester. In the January 2013 publication JAMA Psychiatry, concluded that exposure to traffic-related air pollution, nitrogen dioxide, PM2.5, and PM10 during pregnancy and during the first year of life was associated with autism.

It’s not only proximity to roads that is being correlated with autism

A 2011 Stanford University School of Medicine study found that 62 percent of autism risk was attributable to environmental factors and the journal Reviews on Environmental Health states the relative risk of autism is greater in geographic areas with higher levels of mercury in the air.

In the journal, higher levels of mercury in the air was linked with coal-fired power plants and cement plants with coal-fired kilns. Dr. David Kennedy, an outspoken critic of conventional dentistry, believes we could do away with autism plus many other neurological disorders by eliminating mercury – check out his shocking statements – in the the video below:

The Centers for Disease Control states “A burgeoning body of independent scientific research suggests that one factor that may be in play is environmental exposure to neurotoxic chemicals, most notably mercury, a common toxic byproduct at coal-fired power plants around the country.”

Even if your child struggles with ADHD, autism or other behavioral/learning issues – there are so many things you can do to help them. The biggest is a change in nutrition. Changing diets to organic foods free of artificial colors and chemicals provide gains for a number of children. Artificial colors contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic and can cause reactions in children.

CEASE therapy is also a powerful tool to use to help your child. Through systematic detoxification of the causes of the illness, improvement is seen in both children and adults. Dr. Tinus Smits, the founder of CEASE helped over 300 children with autism prior to his death in 2010. Using homeopathy, isopathy, orthomolecular medicine and nutrition – his legacy continues in the countless children that continue to be helped worldwide.

Thank you Sima for this informative post. I just saw a study this morning regarding the link between asthma and traffic pollution and that makes sense to me, but I never realized traffic pollution could be linked to autism.

Hello, I was curious to find out about the positive allergy to foods my son has. At this point he is allergic to all grains except coconut and corn. He is allergic to all tree nuts and peanuts. Also Dairy, almond, soy, rice. He was limited on food choices before and he is now cant eat much and I was wondering what your advise will be. He is Six years old and maybe on the spectrum. I feel this is a crucial time to limit his food intake for brain development and just feeding him corn as his carb I don’t feel good. corn might not be as healthy specially most of them are GMO. Please help. I know the diet is controversial sometimes what I herd from other parents. Thanks, maha
