Most spas that we have been working with began with seaweed body wraps as the preferred slimming and detox treatment. (In the case of those spas with hydrotherapy tubs, this applies to them as well) Much of the popularity of this treatment can be attributed to the belief that these will reduce the appearance of cellulite. In part this is true. Seaweed contains a number of active ingredients responsible for slimming and evacuation of lymph. Iodine is the first ingredient that comes to mind. This trace element is responsible for boosting metabolism of fats among many including regulation of estrogen levels.

Additionally, brown algae such as Laminaria and Fucus contain a pigment called fucoxanthin which is also a big contributor to increasing metabolism of fat. Laminaran which is a polysaccharide found in brown algae improves circulation which is abundantly evident following every body treatment. The appearance of the skin is smoother, and the skin’s color shows a radiant even tone enhancing the overall appearance of the legs. Heart news that will make everyone happy

According to a study in the American Journal of Medicine, a diet rich in antioxidants, can greatly reduce the risk of heart attack in women. The study followed 32,561 Swedish women between the ages of 49 and 83 from September 1997 through December 2007. Participants filled out a food-frequency questionnaire, during which they were asked on average how often they consumed each type of food or beverage during the past year.

Researchers calculated an approximation of total antioxidant capacity from a database that measures the oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC) of the most common foods in the United States. The women were divided into five separate groups based on total antioxidants in their diet.

Throughout the study, 1,114 women suffered a heart attack. Women with the highest total antioxidant rate had a 20 percent lower risk than the women who had the least total antioxidant rate. The group with the lowest risk – consumed three times as many fruits and vegetables, about 7 servings per day, compared with the others who had only 2-4 servings.

Even better news for cancer patients

There have been several studies that suggest flooding your body with super nutritional fruits and vegetables yield not only an energetic body and sharp mind, but slow the aging process and protect from and reverse cancerous growths. Evidence points to the fact that antioxidants can reduce cancer risk. In an epidemiologic review of many studies, which examined the relationship between fruit and vegetable intake and cancers of the lung, colon, breast, cervix, esophagus, oral cavity, stomach, bladder, pancreas and ovary – the consumption of fruit and vegetables were found to have a significant (positive) effect.

In the early 1990′s, researchers examined well over one hundred epidemiological studies related diet to cancer, and in 128 to 156 dietary studies, fruits and vegetables had a significant protective effect against a variety of cancers. The risk of cancers, for most sites, were found to be twice as high in persons whose intake of fruits and vegetables was low.

A recent study linked fruit and vegetables with a reduced risk of breast cancer in women living in China. In this population based, case-controlled study of women in Shanghai, pre-menopausal women who ate more dark yellow-orange vegetables and more citrus fruits had a lower risk of breast cancer.

A NEW way of looking at apples and onions

Studies show that antioxidants in apples and onions protect against lung cancer in both males and females. They found that there was a 40-50 percent decreased risk in lung cancer in participants with the highest intake of apples, onions and white grape fruits – compared to those who consumed the lowest amount. This was seen across all ethnic lines.

By the way, this was a very well controlled study, which looked at smoking history along with food intake.

In a Finnish study, involving 10,000 men and women and 24-year follow-up the same trend was seen with the same fruit (apple) and vegetable (onion).

Several studies show that the combination of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory polyphenolic compounds found in fruits and vegetables may be the anti-aging tonic we are looking for. A miracle oil – unknown by most people

(NaturalHealth365) If you don’t know about argan oil you should, it is considered a miracle ingredient for good reason. Argan oil is extracted from the nuts of the argan tree, which is native to the southwestern parts of Morocco.

The tree is well adapted to drought and environmentally harsh conditions. Actually, the oil is pulled from the kernels of the tree and is valued for its enormous medicinal properties.

Is this the most valuable oil on the planet?

Alpha-Carotene for longevity

(NaturalHealth365) Alpha-carotene is one of approximately 50 carotenoids. Carotenoids are known to have anti-cancer and anti-aging compounds.


Researchers have found that people who consume high levels of alpha-carotene may live longer. The fountain of youth may be found in orange and green vegetables.

The relationship between longevity and alpha-carotene may be due to its ability to delay or prevent chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cancer. Much research has been focused on the benefits of beta-carotene and less attention has been given to the role of alpha-carotene. The two compounds are chemically similar, but studies have found that alpha-carotene is better at inhibiting several aspects of tumor formation.

Alpha-carotene protects cells from the effects of free radicals, provides a source of vitamin A, enhances the function of the immune system, is good for reproductive function, and prevents age related conditions.

People with high levels of alpha-carotene, live longer and are less likely to succumb to heart disease or cancer then people with low levels of alpha-carotene. This is according to the Archives of Internal Medicine. During a 14 year trial, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that those with the highest levels of beta-carotene were nearly 40 percent less likely to go from any health related causes than those with the lowest levels. Those with medium levels were 27% less likely to succumb to any health related conditions.

Since the study was centered on dietary practices, pills on drugstore shelves aren’t recommended. The exact mechanism of operation of alpha-carotene is yet to be determined. The way to get it is from whole foods, which provide the whole range of carotenes.

Alpha carotene is thought to play a role in preventing some diseases and conditions. These include Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), age-related macular degeneration, asthma, angina pectoris, cervical dysplasia, cervical cancer, cataracts, laryngeal cancer, lung cancer, infertility, osteoarthritis, photosensitivity, pneumonia, skin cancer, arthritis and photosensitivity.


The focus should be on the sources of alpha-carotene. Alpha-carotene is found in orange colored fruits and vegetables such as carrots, tangerines, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, mangoes, persimmons, pumpkins, and winter squash. Dark-greens such as broccoli, green beans, green peas, spinach, turnip greens, collards, kale, cilantro, fresh thyme, Swiss chard, avocados and leafy green lettuce are also good sources.

Absorption is enhanced if these foods are consumed with fats. Carotenes are fat soluble. To halt both cell aging and protect against age related conditions you have to look to what’s missing in your diet. To block the deadly impact of the American diet, it is a must to include the fruits and vegetables that contain alpha-carotene. The rewards for including the above foods in your diet are being able to retain your health into your senior years.
