Steam inhalation for congestion: This is probably the most effective method when you’re really stuffed up.  Boil water, then pour it into a heat-safe bowl and add 3-5 drops of eucalyptus oil.  Drape a towel over your head to create a tent, close your eyes, and breathe in the steam for 5-10 minutes.  You’ll feel the congestion start breaking up almost immediately.  Do this 2-3 times a day when you’re fighting a cold or sinus infection.

Chest rub for nighttime relief: Mix 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil with a tablespoon of coconut oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil.  Rub this gently onto your chest and upper back before bed.  It helps ease coughing and makes breathing easier, so you can actually sleep instead of tossing and turning all night.

Diffuser for ongoing support: Put 4-6 drops in a quality essential oil diffuser and let it run throughout the day.  This method is gentler than direct steam inhalation but still helps clear the air and support your breathing over longer periods.

Important safety notes: Don’t give eucalyptus oil to children under 6 – their systems are too sensitive to it.  If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider first.  Always do a small patch test on your inner arm before using it topically to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction.  And only buy 100% pure, therapeutic-grade eucalyptus oil from trusted sources.  Cheap oils often contain fillers or synthetic fragrances that won’t help and might actually harm you.
