But the ability of apples to prevent cancer and contribute to overall health is closely related to the part of the apple that is consumed. Most consumers think of the tasty, fleshy part of the fruit when choosing to purchase apples as part of a healthy diet.

But enjoying apple juice or cider in place of the actual fruit, or even removing the peel and tossing it aside, means you could be missing out on many of the more critical benefits of apples. Here’s some good news: In the Nurses Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, the regular consumption of fruit and vegetable was linked to a noteworthy 21 percent reduction in lung cancer risk in women. Upon further examination, it was found that apples alone stood out as having significant effect when consumed individually.

A recent Finnish study reveals similar results. A sample population of 10,000 men and women clearly showed a strong relationship between higher intake of flavonoids and lower growth of lung cancer. And, coming as no surprise, the primary source of flavonoids among research participants were apples.

It was concluded, therefore, that flavonoids from apples were most likely responsible for the lowered cancer risk.

Cornell University food scientists saw similar effects in a recent study on reduction of breast cancer. In this study, the researchers treated a group of lab rats with a known mammary cancer-causing agent. However, it was observed that after feeding the rodents apple extracts equivalent to human consumption of just one apple per day, the incidence of tumors decreased by 25 percent.

When fed the equivalent of three apples a day, researchers observed a reduction of 61 percent. Isn’t that amazing?!

Adding apples to a healthy diet is worth the effort.

Although you may find it impractical to eat three apples a day on a regular basis, it is possible to achieve some of the benefits of doing so through the use of nutritional supplements, such as quercetin and apple pectin. When you are able to incorporate more apples into your diet, keep in mind that, as with most foods, the less processing done to the apple, the greater the health advantages.

    What a great article. I would like to make a couple suggestions to anyone reading this and attempting to reverse Cancer in themselves – something very up close and personal for me because this is exactly what I have been doing for almost 2 years now. First diagnosed with tumor on liver….then fibrocystic breasts finally progressed into left ductal + lymph, then to colorectal (with probable GI/Duodenum – opted out due to lack of money for more diagnostics, unpaid Medicare bills now at collections), and more recently, tumor on eyeball (Ocular Cancer likely related to brain infection carried from decades ago). Long story short: I tackled all this with a diverse array of berries, roots, barks, leaves, essential oils, mushrooms, flowers, key supplements and ANTI-CANCER FOODS IN A (mostly) STRICT DIET — very occasional healthy treats or favorite more expensive vegetables, etc. One thing I discovered early on is the power of Whole Food Blender Drinks as a perfect delivery system for whatever medicine you were focused on that month, and this article’s mention of 3 apples per day could easily be accomplished if you used some kind of tea, frozen apple chunks (keep seed in – best medicine is always in the skin, membranes, root, and seed), and to increase the medicinal value, you would want to add some kind of greens and/or berries and lemon/lime.       HI, I eat Granny Smith apples and put Ceylon cinnamon on them to lower blood sugar. Apple seeds have cyanide in them..1/2 cup may hurt. Apples make my gums in my mouth more rubbery…so may help blood vessels and more. Fruit has ingredients that vegetables don’t have which helps cancer. Fibrocystic breast..cysts maybe due to low iodine/iodide. Cancer maybe due to Celiac. Gluten may hurt the intestines so lower nutrients are absorbed intestines and then cells are not made right to work right and pH/oxygen burning is low. Celiac may cause the liver not to detox well.

      Below is what I do for Celiac:
      No gluten/dairy/soy/sugar/GMO and vitamins/good oils, LDN and detoxing help me. Vit D3 5000IU, zinc 50mg if detoxing, fish oil 2000mg, 20000mg of evening primrose oil. 2000 mg of lecithin, Phosphatidylserine/DMAE or krill oil, Coenzyme Q10, Rhodiola, Mg citrate 400mg, Vit C, 5000mcg of biotin, Nature’s Plus- Source of life multiple, HCl and enzymes with meals, dairy free probiotic, Vit B12 methylcobalamin shot/spray/under the tongue kind/intrinsic factor kind, MTHF folate, coenyzme Q10, rhodiola, may help brain/body/thyroid/ and more health issues. Gluten is wheat/barley/rye..oats may act like gluten with avenin. GMO corn/soy/canola oil may hurt. Amour thyroid maybe needed since gluten may made antibodies to the thyroid.

      Sunlight (helps the immune system and helps to heal the gut lining),exercise, organic food, good water..not tap water, cooking by scratch pure food….. no food in a box/bag/premade/label/restaurant which may help avoid hidden gluten. Certified gluten free food may have 20ppm of gluten…too much. Nuts not sold in the shell/meat basting/some spices may have hidden gluten and lotion/make up etc. One restaurant cooks special for me…rice/veg/tea/extra mushrooms (no meat since the woks may have MSG/gluten in them).

      EDTA/DMPS IV chelations from an Alternative doctor, 600mg of cilantro, zeolites, organic sulfur, Now brand- Detox support, Far Infrared Sauna and more may help detox. Hair tests show good minerals and heavy metals. Heavy metals can block thyroid and other chemical reactions in the body/brain.

      LDN may help block hidden gluten/heal the gut lining and help the immune system, but the Celiac diet is still needed. 100% no hidden or microscopic gluten may help. Cutting back on gluten or cheating by eating gluten hurts the immune system. It may take 1 1/2 months to heal the gut lining after getting hidden gluten.

      Amour thyroid has some T3 and Calcitonin. Synthroid is only T4..may not convert to T3. Zn/Se/enough iron/strong probiotic may help convert T4 to T3 for thyroid.

        thanks for the detailed accounts of your program, Stranger. I will study it for more gems, but my immediate response would say: I never buy spices/herbs in bulk supply retail or big box store because anything that is “shelf” goods will have been irradiated and/or fumigated, so always buy in bulk from top wholesale supply such as Mountain Rose Herbs. I am very low-income and while I value all you mentioned for your treatments, these supplements and healing modalities cost big bucks I don’t have. Secondly, you did not mention what I now consider a very low-cost essential: high-dose bioflavonoids because of their incredible impact as a repaired/upgraded medicine/nutrient delivery system. Since retail purchasing at the dose needed is prohibitively expensiive, this leads to my solution: there is an incredible concentration of them (along with the other unidentified synergistic factors) found in the skins/white/seeds of citrus; here is my method for capturing this commonly wasted medicine food: buy big bag of lemons and/or limes – whatever is on sale/in-season, with a very sharp knife, thinly peel off the outermost colored skin (ag chemicals in citrus mostly in outermost peel, molds found in crevaces of outermost only, and there is extremely high allergen potential in the colored part); throw a couple dozen of these into a large high-speed blender (VitaMix) with just enough tea to make a thick slurry; freeze this in small Ball Freezer Cups (or ice cube tray) and take one or two out every day. This “Lemon Juice Plus” kitchen medicine is added to Smoothies, teas, over steam leaves, etc. and I take a tablespoon in warm water or tea first thing in a.m. to get my Failing Liver to awaken. This is a forever habit I just realized this year and I believe it is supplying dramatically effective raw material for my vascular repair project. Here is a little Get Your Vascular System Online story about using this White Slurry of Lemon-Lime (as opposed to just lemon juice every day and then compost the rest). About 1.5 years into this non-stop Cancer-Reversal program, I (again) went through a scary couple months of near constant mild strokes. I went online day & night, re-evaluated everything I was doing (and how to spend my ridiculously tiny monthly food-medicine budget), and I realized this Vascular Repair focus had to happen if I was going to survive. You see, I had a co-existing decades-long (apparently systemic – did not know then) infection I had been on antibiotics for 2 years trying to cure. This may have paved the way for ALL the cancers I have been reversing. So since I had last year seen proof (i.e., paid big bucks for out-of-pocket for uncovered medicare expense for second MRI to prove I knew what I was doing) to show I had eliminated the tumor on my liver, I decided the co-infection could not get better without a system for delivering the medicine and nutrients – i.e., the Vascular delivery system, so I set about figuring out what would do that. I came up with a smoothie of multiple red berry powders added to multiple berries and Hibiscus tea + apples + red cabbage + high lutein stuff with added probiotics, full sea minerable and the best Vitamin C powder. I also took Liposomal C around the clock at the rate of about 25,000 mg / 24/hrs. I also did serious high-dose raw garlic cures as often and as long as I could stand it. What had happened is this old infection which had begun originally from a bad root canal tooth removal which caused a “cavitation” had clearly progressed like this: tooth/jaw/face/head/neck/left lymp/left breast/lymphatic system/right side/systemic infection – SICK AND COULD NOT THINK, DO, FUNCTION. At this point, I knew what had happened, I had given myself cancer all over via the original source of the tooth infection. This is the symbiotic relationahip between “co-infections” and cancer which you will very occasionally hear mentioned and I think is far more instrumental than people realize because these co-infections can be low-level, at Ghost Stages of advanced such as Lyme which I also have, and are embedded in your other cells and your body has compensated and allowed to co-exist for a lifetime, and meanwhile, your entire system is both depleted AND you are gradually setting up a method of spreading other bad things. The only way to reverse this process is to take back the front-line soldiers who operate throughout your body’s system of interconnected channels known as the Vascular System. I am autistic and this method of visualizing a problem and cure is the only way I ever get anything done in life. How accurate it is does not matter. I am now 80% complete of this underlying systemic infection, have no stroke activity except the damage from this most recent bout with constant stroking which I am trying to repair with the oils (another story and your reminder of Primrose was good), and I have more energy than before I got sick. thanks for the opportunity to piece this issue together and the caring person who listened! Time to go outside and finish weedwacking the 2nd acre, then take a load to recycling, then plant some apple trees. 101 in SW WA today and my kidneys will only give me about 2 hours today. hope you will get something from this, friend.

        I never buy any prepared foods, only whole raw materials, do all processing fresh in kitchen, so never have issue with gluten. I also consume millet and buckwheat along with quinoa, and only a little Bob’s Red Mill Organic Corn Masa for tortillas to hold all the other good stuff. Eat Tacos twice/day every day and anything goes great inside them. I am a big bean eater too. But getting off the gluten took a year because I kept missing cereal and would talk myself into Oat Bran cereal…or “just one cookie” at a friends house, etc. Now I use Quinoa flour, Brown Rice Flour, and Amaranth flour and make great baked goods. But it took over a year of re-realizing gluten had to go. Finally glad to say it is behind me. Cassein too.

    Organic lemon peel extract is being used to supply folic acid and folates to mother’s to be. Passionfruit’s peel extract is known to have a calming effect and is known to support elasticity and suppleness to the complexion.

    Pectin is found primarily in the cell walls of citrus fruits, pears, apples, plums and other fruit. Phytonutrients are what makes all fruit and vegetables super foods. Thanks for a great article.

    I’ve read that apples are the most heavily sprayed fruit there is, so, the skins would
    tend to be toxic. Organic apples can be hard to find.

    The only answer is to eat organically grown apples, which will be pesticide and chemical free.
