Processed cereals found to be neurotoxic

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Aluminum Warning(NaturalHealth365) Processed cereals are sold to parents as a ‘good source’ of fiber, vitamins and minerals. In truth, these neurotoxic food products are loaded with heavy metals, sugar plus artificial ingredients which actually destroy the metabolism and brain function. After reading the rest of this article – you’ll want to find a better way to start your day.

How do food marketing executives sleep at night?

Just one glance at the marketing of these breakfast cereals and you have to wonder if these ‘ad people’ have any conscience at all. My own investigation (not that complicated) reveals a few shocking truths – you decide for yourself.

”The results are in! 9 out of 10 physicians* recommend Post Shredded Wheat as part of a healthy diet to help reduce the risk of heart disease and to maintain heart health. In fact, 96% of doctors surveyed with more than 15 years of experience would recommend Post Shredded Wheat as part of a healthy diet to help reduce the risk of heart disease.**” – Excerpt taken from

Deceptive marketing tactics can be deadly. But, before you decide to buy Post Shredded Wheat for ‘heart health’ – let’s take a closer look at their ingredients:

whole grain wheat, sugar, honey, high oleic vegetable oil (canola or sunflower oil), molasses, almonds, partially defatted wheat germ, salt. Bht added to packaging material to preserve product freshness. (This was taken right off the ‘’ website)

But, since when did it become heart healthy to consume processed sugar, genetically-modified canola oil or butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)? And, just in case you’re wondering, BHT is used in jet fuel and embalming fluid. Do you think this might be neurotoxic to the human body? But let’s move on…

Cereal manufacturers have got to be kidding in their advertising

According to Frosted Flakes®, their cereal has the “great taste the whole family will love”. And, of course, they go on to say: “the crunchy flakes perfectly coated with sweet frosting gives every morning a great start”. Are you kidding me? This would be a terrific joke for a comedian – if it weren’t true.

Again – let’s take a closer look at the highly-toxic ingredients in Frosted Flakes®: milled corn, sugar, salt and BHT “for freshness”. I’m not kidding – this is taken directly from the website.

Stop being deceived by marketing hype. When you see the words ‘milled corn’, in any boxed cereal, it most likely comes from genetically modified organism (GMOs) that have been proven to cause tumors in animals fed a GM diet plus many other health related problems like, food allergies and digestive disorders.

Processed (demineralized) salt is very harmful to the human body – causing all sorts of health problems, including hypertension. Sea salt is a better salt.

Again, almost funny, when you realize that Kellogg’s tells parents…

”Serving size is important. And it’s the first place we all should start when reading a nutrition label.” But, is that really true? What about looking at the quality of the ingredients served to our children?

Oops, so sorry, I must just be too picky about food and one of those ‘health nuts’. I think the psychiatric community says that being ‘overly concerned’ about the quality of the food you eat is a mental disorder. But, this issue, is for another article.

All kidding aside – if people really knew how breakfast cereal was produced and the quality of the ingredients, no one would buy this crap.

Animals fed processed cereal experience horrific side effects and premature death

Researchers, at the University of Michigan, divided rats into three groups – one group received cornflakes and water; a second group was given the cardboard box – the cornflakes came in – and water; and the control group received rat chow and water. Can you guess what happened next?

1. The rats in the control group remained in good health – throughout the experiment.

2. The rats consuming only the box became lethargic and eventually succumbed to malnutrition.

3. The rats that consumed the cornflakes and water died even faster than the rats consuming the box plus, before they expired, they became schizophrenic, threw fits, bit each other and finally went into convulsions.

The researchers went on to say that the rats had dysfunction of the pancreas, liver and kidneys along with the degeneration of the nerves in the spine.

Are ‘organic’ box cereals any better to eat?

Actually, the news isn’t much better. These cereals are manufactured – the same way – using an ‘extrusion process’, which exposes the cereal grain proteins to high levels of heat and pressure – turning these proteins into foreign substances unrecognizable to the human digestive system.

These denatured cereal products plus many other highly-processed foods contribute to all the health problems we see today. Instead of waiting for multinational food producers to ‘change their ways’ – let’s get out there and educate our family and friends about the dangers of processed foods. Look for healthier alternatives, eat fresh foods and stay strong!

I love your articles Jonathan, without you none of us would be any the wiser. I thank you and people like you. I stopped eating cornflakes since I read the articles on the GMO corn, although I still eat bran flakes. It’s so easy just to pour out of a box when I’m rushing for work in the mornings, plus the fibre helps too! I’ll have to rethink my breakfast menu. Thanks again.

Hi Jonathan. My family and I eat the Kashi brand of cereals. Specifically the “Cinnamon Harvest”, and “Autumn Wheat” varieties. These are both USDA certified organic, and “NON GMO Project Verified”. The ingredients in the Cinnamon Harvest are “Organic Whole Grain Wheat, Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Organic Cinnamon, Natural Cinnamon Flavor”. The ingredients in the Autumn Wheat are “Organic Whole Grain Wheat, Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Natural Flavor”. Kashi’s “Commitment Statement” on the back of their box sems to be pretty sincere. What can you tell me about these cereals? Thanks Jonathan!

Autumn wheat’s natural flavor is maple syrup, brown sugar and barley malt. This along with the sugar makes for for too much sweetness . Kashi is a company owned by Kellogg , which says natural isn’t nature.

Hi organic girl. Thanks for your reply. I did find that Kashi cereal is a division of Kellogg Company. The thing I can’t find is what the natural flavor is made of. Where did you find that, and could you please provide a link or reference for it? Thanks!

bondroo6, this is one of places that had a list of the natural flavor in Autumn Wheat.

A concerned reader wrote to The VRG in June 2011 asking about the natural
flavor listed as an ingredient in Kashi’s® Whole Wheat Biscuits Autumn Wheat® cold cereal. He asked The VRG to look into the matter.

We emailed and called Kashi® about the natural flavor in the Autumn Wheat®
cereal and received quick responses as well as a follow-up call back by the same consumer specialist one day after our initial inquiry. Victor told us that the
natural flavor in the Autumn Wheat® cereal is “natural maple brown sugar flavor”
composed of “maple syrup and brown sugar.” Victor added that barley malt flavor is added to enhance the flavor of both.
