Root canals and breast cancer: The connection is clear

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

root canal image(NaturalHealth365) I’ll begin this article by stating the obvious: I am not a dentist and I don’t pretend to be. However, I talk with women all over the globe every week about breast cancer – as I coach them on my program which involves the ‘7 essentials’ of breast cancer prevention and treatment. One of the fundamental questions I ask them is: “Do you have root canals?”

I ask them this because I am passionate about helping others create vibrant health and educating them on how to get there. And when it comes to root canals, there is mounting evidence to suggest a strong correlation: root canals – which fill your mouth with toxic chemicals – can and do increase your risk of disease, including breast cancer.

Science confirms the root canal – cancer connection

Bill Henderson is the author of the book “Cure Your Cancer” and host of the popular radio show “How to Live Cancer-Free.” After 25 years as a cancer-prevention advocate speaking with thousands of cancer patients and doctors on and off the air, he says, “Two facts have jumped out at me from those many phone calls… 1) The most common cause of all cancers is root canal-filled teeth and cavitation sites; and 2) Until a cancer patient gets rid of the root canal-filled teeth and cavitations, they don’t get well. You can take those two facts to the bank, folks.”

Science is beginning to agree with Henderson’s claim. Dr. Robert Jones, looked directly at the relationship between root canals and breast cancer.

His 5-year study involving over 300 women with breast cancer found that 93 percent of them had root canals. Interestingly, he also found that, in the majority of the cases, the cancer tumors were located on the same side of the body as the root canal or other oral pathology.

In addition, the actual root canal procedure can be the cause of infection from the get-go. A 1998 study, published in the American Academy of Periodontology, concluded that the actual root canal sites as well as the blood samples of all 26 case subjects contained anaerobic bacteria. It is a safe bet that from the minute you get that root canal (no doubt recommended and performed by your traditional local dentist), a never-ending river of bacteria starts flowing into your entire bloodstream.

How the teeth are directly connected to the health of your body

The connection between your mouth and the rest of your body just makes sense if you look at your teeth as an integral part of your overall body system. Your teeth are living organisms that are connected to the rest of your body through the ‘acupuncture meridian system.’

This organism contains over 3 miles of tubules (tiny fluid-filled holes in the dentin layer of each tooth). When a tooth becomes diseased to the point where it cannot be saved with a non-toxic filling or a crown, the tooth should be extracted. Period.

Saving a dying, infected tooth would be like trying to save an infected appendix or gall bladder by stuffing it with bleach (sodium hypochlorite is routinely used in root canals) and other toxic chemicals in the hope that the body will not reject it. Sound silly, right?

It is silly, and dangerous. Innately, your body does not want to hold on to anything “dead.”

If a root canal is performed to “save” a dead tooth, the thousands of tubules within the tooth each become receptacles for deadly bacteria. The result is: An on-going toxic drip of bacteria such as E. Faecalis (responsible for abscess formation and destruction of tissue) into the body and its organs.

The result of the constant presence of bacteria in the root canal area can be a severe suppression your of immune system.

Infected teeth threaten your whole body with poor health

It can also effect the organs connected to the tooth, again through the acupuncture meridian system. For example, the 4th and 5th tooth – to the left and right of the center teeth – in the upper and lower jaw are connected to the breast meridian.

Constant infection caused by a root canal in these teeth can lead to complications, energy (or Chi) imbalances and blockages in energy flow in the breast meridian. This phenomenon is often very visible in thermography scans.

If you have had a root canal, consider having the tooth removed and the tissue around it cleaned and repaired by a holistic or biological dentist. Biological dentists understand the connection between root canal and disease in the body. The Holistic Dental Association and the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine are great resources for learning more and for finding a biological dentist near you.

Bottom line, if you are being proactive with breast cancer prevention and are on a healing journey, you MUST address your dental health.

Great article! I recently had a molar removed that had been treated with a root canal 5 years earlier. There was infection and I wanted the tooth gone – no more root canals for me. I started feeling a shift in my entire well being (on all levels) the very next day. I’ve been detoxing ever since and I am seriously considering getting my other root canals looked at as well – by a holistic dentist. I was telling my dentist about the connection between root canals and breast cancer – she thought I was crazy. They are so uninformed and uninterested.

    • John

Dr. Thomas Rau, who runs the Paracelsus Clinic (cancer clinic since 1958) in Switzerland recently, checked the records of the last 150 breast cancer patients treated in his clinic. He found that 147 of them (98%) had one or more root canal teeth on the same meridian as the original breast cancer tumor. His clinic has a biological dentist section where all cancer patients, on reporting in, have their mouth cleaned up first, especially all root canal teeth removed.

  • pam r

My Dentist told me 90% of all root canal teeth are infected and most of the time does not show up on an x-ray.

    • John

It does show up on x-ray, but the dentists have not been trained to identify NICO (neuralgia induced cavitational osteonecrosis) on an x-ray!

  • Mary

Please post a registry of said dentists

    • Lee

If you do a search for “biological dentist,” many resources will pull up.

  • John

Yes, I’ve known this for years. In fact, this fact is in my book with several references to how this happens with breast cancer. Dr. Thomas Rau, who runs the Paracelsus Clinic (cancer clinic since 1958) in Switzerland recently, checked the records of the last 150 breast cancer patients treated in his clinic.(96) He found that 147 of them (98%) had one or more root canal teeth on the same meridian as the original breast cancer tumor. His clinic has a biological dentist section where all cancer patients, on reporting in, have their mouth cleaned up first, especially all root canal teeth removed.

Because of the huge disconnect between the dental profession and the medical profession that treats symptoms, it is not difficult to see why many problems that have their root causes with modern dentistry never make the connection with medical doctors and why many of the chronic illnesses stem from deteriorating jaw bones and teeth.

  • John

Root canals can be done safely and effectively, but very few dentist know how this is done properly. There are many steps to making them right all the way from what aniline chemical to use (septocaine) to laser sanitizing and using endocal-10 as opposed to gutta percha that does not fill all the canals!

  • Jill

I agree with you Dave. I never have read anything regarding an alternative. I am obsessive about my diet, and oral hygiene, however, since I started going through menopause, my teeth seem to be having issues. I have a holistic doctor, and nutritionist, but we cannot seem to fix the problem.

    • Dave

I could understand having a moler removed but I have a RC in my pre-molers which would require an implant or bridge. The implants are known to be toxic and interfere with meridians as well. If i were to get a bridge then I would need to sacrifice 2 other healthy teeth to support it as they need to be filed down to support it. If the bridge fails then I would lose all 3 teeth. I am still young so I dont see it being worth it yet so i guess its all about maintaining a healthy diet. and supplementing the immune system.

  • Susan

I guess my cause for developing breast cancer is purely environmental. I’ve never had a root canal.

    • walcon

I don’t think they said it was the ONLY cause- did they?
      Please read intelligently.

  • Gaby

What are the alternatives?! I have root canals, bridges, implants on almost all of my teeth. Take them all out and have what at 40 yo?

    • kathleen

There really are not great alternatives in dentristy at this time – They need one

    • Lee

Gaby, I hope you do some of your own research. Since you posted, many resources have been added to this comments section (including resources which I posted). If you consult a biological dentist, that dentist can tell you what your options are. FYI, a biological dentist will be aware of the health dangers of root canals, as well as the danger of having metals anywhere in the body. Just google “biological dentist” to get you started. The cumulative effects of all the challenges the immune system must contend with, is not something to be taken lightly.

As I’ve mentioned several times on this page already, the site of dentist Alison Adams has 4,000 pages of research on problems with traditional dentistry, and it may be of use to you. The most important thing, however, is that you get yourself to a biological dentist to get the big picture of what can lie ahead for you.

  • Sue Ledbetter

I have never had a root canal, and I had Inflammatory Breast Cancer. This doesn’t prove all things

    • sandy

That’s because there’s many causes that can contribute to the growth of cancer. There’s a theory that a strong immune system kills off cancer cells. I try to keep my immune system strong so if there’s a theory that root canals can compromise my immune system (due to the toxins and chemical) then I will avoid them. If we discount theories or hypothesis, such as root canals may weaken the immune system and contribute to cancer cells, then we may never find the truth.

      • kathleen

        Very true

  • Alex

Here we go again… Another round of garbage science making rounds on the web. They extracted every single tooth in need of root canal therapy in the first half of the 20th century because root canal treatment was thought to cause every disease known to man! Several generations had to go edentulous because of this garbage. Now it’s recycled again-just like conspiracy theories that never die. And of course someone always profits from that.

    • SteveF

The original research took the bad root canal teeth and put them in rabbits which in turned got the same disease of the human the teeth were taken from, over 10,000 times. if you find counter research please tell me, I need to be enlightened.

  • Martin

If you did a 5 year study on 300 women who had cancer and asked them if they breathed you would find a 100% correlation between breathing and getting cancer. So, does that mean breathing causes cancer? Same idiocy applies to this article.

    • Amercan111

      Thank you!!!!

    • jammer

The only idiot is the one who would dismiss an obvious relationship that is established…… the guy who was the leading authority of dentistry of his day…. Hey everybody! Let’s follow Martin as the epitome of intelligence.

  • pam r

I have spoken to many to many people who could not cure their cancer -once they pulled their root canals or replaced mercury fillings and had dental infection fixed
their tumors shrunk. I know one man who reversed lymphoma by simply getting rid of root canals (properly removed). To many stories like this to be ignored.

  • Amercan111

    1) As anyone who has ever studied statistics knows–correlation doesn’t equal causation; 2) the implication is that cancer can be caused by anaerobes? and 3) Henderson is not a doctor or scientist. Just saying.

    • Jammer

Those who remove the offending tooth would disagree with you…….but hey your smarter than them right?

  • GB Shuping

This is the silliest claim I’ve heard in a long time. Based on 1920s studies with focal infection theory. This is misinformation and dangerous to unscientific minded people.

    • pam r

Have you ever done any research on this matter or is this just your opinion from reading one article by a doctor.

    • Sarah Sweeney

That’s from the 1920’s,,,,,, I do not know if this theory is true or not, but an article from the 20’s?

  • susan murray

I had root canal treatment on my upper right front tooth in 1991. I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in my right breast in 2003!

    • pam r

Did you ever have it removed?

  • Ang

I had breast cancer.. oh and no root canals. But I’m in the field. Have been for 20yrs. Maybe that’s why?? Oh wait my mom also had it.. twice. And recently had a root canal. 9yrs after her last diagnosis.hmmmm And my Grandma died from metastatic breast cancer… oh no wait. She had dentures. Hmmmm call me crazy but I’m gonna disagree. I think it’s called genetically predisposed. You get what you get. Yes I realize some factors i.e. environment, diet etc can effect one..but in my my case I was born..thats all.

  • pam r

Many people are curing cancer by just having their root canals pulled – I know a few of them personally. If there was no connection how could a tumor regress after getting rid of the root canal.

  • Blueman

Even more dangerous is getting your hair cut. 100% of cancer victims have had their hair cut at some point in their lives.

    • kathleen

Actually, you are correct if you go to a salon and breathe all the the toxic chemicals, get your dyed and apply all their toxic products.

      • pam r

        That is very true

  • Sarah Sweeney

I do not want missing teeth is there an alternative?

  • Cathey Painter

I have a first hand experience. My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer that had already spread outside the prostate. For an entire year he did very strong natural protocols. Vitamin C IV’s, 3 weeks at a alternative clinic, diet, and much more…he looked amazing, felt amazing but the cancer was still there. I kept reading about root canals and decided that this could be the reason the cancer was not going away. Finally my husband agreed to get the root canal out. Some infection showed up on the xray. After the surgery was done the surgeon came out and said the infection was much worse than what showed up on the x-ray. The infection had eaten a hole the size of a quarter up into his sinuses and severe infection was draining back down into his body. 2 months after having the root canal taken out, the cancer was gone!!! You can read about some of the protocols we did on my site. theagelessbeautyreport .com/catheys-immune-boosting-tips/

    • Lee

Thank you, Cathey (and God bless you for the help you gave your husband!).
FYI, the link you provided didn’t initially work (it has a space before “com”). You may wish to remove the space so people can access the content more easily. : )

  • Cathey Painter

For all of you who are slamming this…do your homework. Read the work of Dr. Weston Price, Dr. Hal Huggins. Even one of the founding drs. of the endodontic association , Dr. George Mening, who had personally performed root canals for 45 years, changed his stance on the safety of root canals after reading the studies done by Dr. Weston Price in the 20’s and 30’s and then Dr. Hal Huggins in the early 90’s. Dr. George Mening spent the rest of his life trying to warn dentist about the dangers of root canals. Why does the ADA continue to “cover up” these findings. To admit the dangers would make them liable to law suits.

    • pam r

So Glad that your husband found out this information. Most people never do. I heard so many cancer recovery stories similar to this. People have a tendency to slam most information that they never heard about before. They figure if it was true than everyone would know including the doctor’s. However, the opposite is true all real solution oriented information has been suppressed
and doctors are not taught anything outside of their pharma curriculum.

  • pam r

Just look up the book Toxic Tooth by Dr. levy – It is not the only book on this

  • Julio

Yes the scientific method has shown medical/scientific advancement, in the early stages of this wonderful method. But we cannot forget that before this new methodology there were others that would be considered barbaric and its funny how they were the best scientific methods and the time. We have to examine all possibilities even those that can’t or haven’t been proven by scientific methods. Remember who are running these researches and making money from the results. We are still doing the same thing (chemo, radiation etc) since Nixon was president. With the same results. It doesn’t take a scientist or doctor to see something is wrong. This is not a false conclusion. All we trying to do is find the real reasons of cancer and how to treat it without have to feed the cancer industry. Don’t they have enough money already?

  • Ate Susan B. Magisa

Not only our root canal but all the part of our body are all connected to each of it so it is much better to keep our health healthy ,for cancer free!

    Deuteronomy 7:15

And Jehovah will certainly remove from you every sickness; and as for all the evil diseases of Egypt that you have known, he will not place them upon you, and he will indeed put them upon all those who hate you.

    Revelation 21:4
And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

    Revelation 22:2
down the middle of its broad way. And on this side of the river and on that side [there were] trees of life producing twelve crops of fruit, yielding their fruits each month. And the leaves of the trees [were] for the curing of the nations

    • Linda Lynch

Jehovah must be blind hes not helping those poor starving kids overseas!!!

      • Jammer

you have to wonder if those kids are raised by pagans who wont believe in the Christ. The circle of parents choices always falls on to their progeny. If their starving in India it could be that they want to believe their relatives are cows???

  • DMarie

The number of xrays taken before, during and after a root canal treatment should be considered as a potential cause of cancer as well. The author of this article mentioned the cancer was almost always on the same side of the body. Xrays are overly used, many documented studies involving xrays prove that xrays are extremely harmful and absolutely cause cancer.

  • Tamara Springer

Seriously wondering if these studies were funded by oral surgeons. I mean.. If we are gonna remove all root canal treated teeth, people are gonna be lining up for some implants!

  • Jamn

I have had 3 root canals in my lifetime. My sister who hasn’t had any has had breast cancer twice, and I have no signs of it whatsoever we are two years apart in age.

  • Mmm

Cancers have different causes and can not all be treated the same. Our environment is laden with cancer causing toxins including our emotions. This information has been proven true and may or may not be of help to you. For those that have struggled with generational cancer, you are suffering from a hereditary weakness in some part of your body. Most people have them. Sadly yours may eventually manifest to cancer. The best thing is to protect, strengthen and care for that area as much as possible. For those that have not had root canals or have had them and the outcome was different, then looking in a different direction will be helpful for your solution. However, this may help someone you know if it doesn’t help you. I have had lab test done concerning my treated teeth. The lab results showed bacterial infections underneath the teeth. When the dentist removed the dental work, I had reoccurring candida infections underneath. Immediately my body felt lighter and the coating on my tongue became much lighter. It has stayed this way unless I am detoxing. In the past nothing I did would remove the coating for any length of time. I have more dental work to fix, including a root canal but I can only imagine how my health will improve. I have also witnessed a town were lots of people were being told they had cancer. Everyone in the treatment waiting rooms knew each other. A second or third opinion always helps. The main thing is that we try to help each other. There are all types of natural cancer cures out there that people are passing over because they are skeptical. One just has to do the legwork and figure out what is going on with their particular body and match it with the appropriate natural remedy.

  • Becky

The Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland uses all ceramic implants, which they believe are bio-compatible. For accurate details, you can read their website and can email questions to them.

  • Linda Lenox

This is terrifying! I have had breast cancer 2 different times, which puts my daughters at risk. My youngest daughter had had many root canals starting with a baby tooth then during her teens, and one in her early 20’s. We now have reason to believe that she did not need root canals as we were told by a certain dentist, and that this was Medicaid fraud.

  • shirtour

I suggest you follow your intuition, have the front out, and have a 1-tooth bridge put in.

  • Lee

It takes zero effort to raise the flag of “peer reviewed studies.” It may sound credible at first glance, but where is the truth-seeking behind it? (The protest made here is the same protest made by the dental industry to protect its profitable turf.)
Four thousand pages of research on the shocking, egregious practices of the dental industry are available at a site hosted dentist, Dr. Alison Adams: (click on the research tab).
Another excellent reference is the book, “Tooth Truth” by Frank Jerome, DDS. Similarly, naturopathic physician, Hulda Clark, has written on dental toxicity as well.

  • Lee

Every concern you raised (and more!) is covered in “Root Canal Cover-up” by Dr. George Meinig. As the former head of the ADA, he did root canals all through his dental career, but when he retired, he studied the research on their efficacy and side-effects. The research caused him to do a complete about-face. Because you are in the profession, you especially owe it to yourself to read this book.
Additionally, there are MANY resources mentioned in other comments on this page (including in comments I have posted here). For example, consider the 4,000 pages of research articles available at the site of dentist Alison Adams: http://www.thenaturalrecoveryplan. com (look under the research tab).
As for your question about the never-ending flow of bacteria through a tooth which has had the pulp removed, consider that the remaining dentin contains tubules. The article above states that a tooth contains “over 3 miles of tubules (tiny fluid-filled holes in the dentin layer of each tooth).” Three miles is a low estimate, according to Dr. Alison Adams, as that figure applies only to the front teeth. A back tooth can actually contain over 12 miles of very tiny tubules, and yes, those tubules in a root canal inevitably end up carrying a never-ending flow of bacteria.
Also important (& what the article above doesn’t get around to) is that these bacteria eventually turn into anerobic bacteria, which are especially toxic to the body. What a root canal creates is a prodigious toxin factory continuously pumping anerobic bacteria into the body. Not good!! Most people (if they knew this) would rather that a tooth be completely removed, than to have it tampered with so that it turned into a bacteria factory to continuously assault the immune system.
Jesresher, on a personal note, I think it’s great that you’re in the profession, AND you seem curious to learn. Go for it! Perhaps your newly earned awareness will eventually become contagious and enlightening when you rub shoulders with your co-workers. (Who knows? You may even ultimately shift to working with biological dentists, who understand the many life-suppressing dangers of current traditional dental practices, and who thus use life-supporting holistic approaches.)

  • Meris

Just to add to the statistics. I’ve had several root canals and now into suspicion of a second breast cancer. I got a serious infection from one and was hospitalized for a week. Please do suggest an alternative to root canals – to replace the missing teeth. Thank you for your excellent articles.

  • dental school student

bridges and implants. they are designed to allow for root canal bypass. don’t touch endodontics and always ask for the alternative (usually) at a reduced fee, too
