Vegetable juice with meals improve digestion

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Healthy Juice News(NaturalHealth365) Are vegetable juices good to drink with your meals? Most experts will tell you to never drink with your meal, as it dilutes the enzymes necessary to ensure your food is digested properly. And, under ‘normal conditions’, I would agree with that statement – if we are drinking soda, water, coffee, alcohol, wine, champagne or ice tea.

However, when we are making ‘enzyme rich’ fresh green juices to consume with our meals, these juices have a plethora of plant food enzymes that are designed to break down starches, sugars and proteins, and helps us absorb all of the nutrients more efficiently.

How much of your meal is ‘alive’?

This is an important question – at your next meal – how much of your meal has not been cooked? If it’s not at least 50% raw, make some fresh green juices or a good carrot juice combination (recipe below) and your mostly cooked meal will benefit greatly by consuming a 16 or 24 ounce glass of freshly made juice. If your meal is 100% raw, then it’s not necessary to drink anything with your meal.

We don’t, however, recommend preparing fruit juices to be consumed with meals. Fruit juices digest differently than vegetable juices, especially with cooked foods, which result in the fermentation of the foods you are eating as they try to digest in the gut. Granted, the fruit juices are rich in enzymes, but fruits digest quickly (within 15 minutes or so) and the cooked foods will prevent them from leaving the gut, therefore causing gastritis, fermentation and/or the inability to be absorbed as efficiently as they could be, had they been consumed alone, without a meal.

Great juice recipe to improve digestion

In the recipe below – the use of spinach, ginger, lemon and cucumber will greatly improve your digestion. However, I don’t suggest you blend this because it will be too heavy. The juice of these vegetables is more efficient because it is fiber-free and will help release enzymes quicker because these juices are ‘pre-digested’.

Try this delicious digestive juice cocktail

3 cups spinach
1 cup Swiss chard or parsley
6 ribs celery
1 inch ginger root
1 lemon
1 large cucumber (either hothouse or english)

We suggest you drink 16-24 ounces during your meal. This tonic should make about 24 ounces and may be enough for two people. Enjoy!
