By looking at both living mice and molecular processes in a culture medium, the researchers were able to find a causative link between low dietary potassium, heart disease and the underlying pathogenic mechanism.

Potassium rich foods help maintain ideal blood pressure and electrolyte balance

Low levels of potassium were undeniably linked with increased vascular calcification. The low-potassium mice also showed increased aortal stiffness. By contrast, higher amounts of potassium improved health in these areas as well as overall cardiovascular health. These results were also reflected at the molecular level.

Potassium is an electrolyte that offsets sodium’s effects in the body, helping to regulate blood pressure. Potassium also helps to maintain an ideal acid and base balance in the body.

It’s important to realize that low potassium has already been linked with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Of course, another cardiovascular disease risk factor would be the overconsumption of processed sodium (i.e. table salt). We can reshape the future if we eat the right foods. It is a significant difference we can make in our health. Everyone says save for your retirement years, yet there is no mention of this. Our retirement years aren’t going to be fun even with savings if we aren’t healthy. I think I will be eating more bananas and avocados.

I love bananas and hardly eat avocados. Now, I will find a way to use them. Salads seem like a logical choice. There must be other ways to include them in my diet. I will be pulling up recipes and testing them out. It is an ingredient that probably has more options then I realize.

Nothing says beautiful like healthy. How many ads I view a day that talks about this topic. Almost none talk about being mindful of your health. I appreciate learning all I can on ways to stay healthy. With heart disease so prevalent this is what the American public should be interested in.

This is the easiest advice to follow. Bananas and avocados beats being on heart medication. Heart disease is a preventable condition.

Image having a drugstore in your kitchen. We miss the mark if we think that we can eat what we want and take pills to fix the problems that causes. Problem-that is what a large part of the population does.

Am I missing something? Quadrupling your potassium intake only correlated with a 5 % reduced risk of dying with heart disease??

Bananas are pretty easy to do, I eat 1/2 a banana in the morning sometime and then the other half later in the day. I do this because I quickly tire of bananas otherwise. I have trouble finding ways to use avocado because I don’t like mixing it with too many other things or else I think we lose the nutritional value. I eat them in salads, I mash them with a fork and use them on a slice of sourdough bread (rather than mayo) with a chopped chicken or roast beef sandwich. We use only organically raised/pasture raised meats in this house or we don’t eat them at all. PERIOD. Ditto for eggs. We drink raw milk (both goat and cow – Jersey or Guernsey) and we drink twice-purified water from our ceramic filtering system. We have a dry-heat sauna but only get time to use it about once a week, we walk about 2 miles daily.

STILL we can’t get the blood pressure lowered to the standards our medical goons think it should be. We get it under 140/90 *which was considered perfectly normal for decades*, then the doctors decide it should be 130 over something else, or now 120 over something and last I heard it was supposed to be 115 over 75. This is pure craziness. Everyone knows that as we age our arteries tend to become brittle no matter how hard we try to make that NOT happen. I believe Dr. Brownstein has hit the nail on the head in his article recently, saying that after age 60 we should take our age, add 100 points and that should be our systolic number, and that seems to be much more logical. Our diastolic should always be somewhere between 70 and 90, I believe.

I am always on the look-out for *heart health articles* because I have a prolapsed mitral valve which I’ve had for 30 years now – it started out as a murmur of prenancy when I carried our last child, but it never went away. The doctors told me that when the baby was born it would go away within a couple of months. WRONG. So now I have to deal with a pounding, crashing around in my chest heart, which also causes me great anxiety at times. I am taking a beta blocker for the PMV which helps, but now my doctor wants to increase the dose because she says my BP is too high. Yes, it’s high in her office because I have white coat syndrome and it’s ALWAYS high in that setting or any “medical” setting, even my eye doctor! But when I try to increase the dose I get extremely dizzy because I don’t think my BP is high ALL the time. When I take it at home my numbers are normal, as a rule. Doctors tend to think that if they take your BP once in their office, that’s the number they should go by. WHAT?? BP is not ever static, it changes constantly, so how can they make such a life-altering determination from just one reading?

My husband now has what they claim is high BP, too. We take a few supplements (CoQ10, magnesium/potassium combo, beet powder mixed in fresh juice or water every day) but either we aren’t using enough of anything in the natural line or the medical industry has gone whacko with their new numbers. My DH and I have both mentioned that if our BP gets below a certain number, we feel dizzy. I think someone picked those numbers out of a BIGPHRMA hat and made it the go-to standard when Rx drugs needed to be sold in larger quantities in order to meet their greedy profit margin.

Any ideas?

High blood pressure means you have a sluggish liver. It has nothing to do with your age. Avoid dairy, eggs, pork and canola oil which feed pathogenic viruses and bacteria including the HHV6 virus that causes heart disease. Also reduce the fat in your diet. Too much fat in the diet causes your liver to become sluggish and causes your blood to thicken.

You can get dizzy if your blood pressure or blood sugar drops too low. Systolic blood pressure should be between 90 and 120 and diastolic blood pressure between 60 and 80. You also don’t want the difference between the two pressures called the pulse pressure to be too high like 60 are higher. For example if your blood pressure is 140 over 80 then the pulse pressure or difference between the two pressures is 60.
