(NaturalHealth365) Thinking he was doing the best thing for his newborn son, an Australian man is still living with the consequences of heeding a hospital’s directive to get a booster vaccine for pertussis, also known as whooping cough, before seeing his infant. According to interviews given to a local news station, the hospital pushed for the father to be vaccinated as a precaution for the health of his newborn son, who was born prematurely.

What followed was nothing short of financial and emotional disaster for the family. The single vaccination left this father of five permanently disabled, no longer able to work or support his family. As expected, health officials in that country claim there is ‘no evidence’ the vaccination caused the man’s sudden serious health disaster – despite symptoms appearing only days after the inoculation.

Single vaccination causes devastating results

Like most parents, Ben Hammond wanted to do all he could for his children. So, when hospital officials insisted he get a vaccination for whooping cough before seeing his prematurely born infant, Hammond obliged.

But less than two weeks later, Hammond lay near death after coming down with a debilitating case of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM). ADEM is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease in which the myelin sheath of neurons is damaged. A portion of its victims never recover. It is a condition primarily affecting the white matter of the brain and spinal cord.

Left a quadriplegic for six months, Hammond spent 10 months in the hospital and rehabilitation center, and nearly died. Intense steroids, blood treatments and physical therapy four times a day helped him to walk again. While he has since regained a portion of this mobility, Hammond was left without bladder or bowel control, and only limited function of his liver and kidneys.

He also suffers from short-term memory loss and spends about 90 percent of his time bedridden because a severely compromised immune system has left him rarely able to leave his home.

Ineffective and dangerous: The cold truth about vaccines

Sadly, the experience of the Hammond family is not an isolated incident. Vaccines are known to contain a number of toxic substances and vaccine injuries are much more common than is typically publicized.

Interestingly, all states and territories in Australia except Tasmania had introduced a free pertussis vaccine for parents beginning as far back as 2009. But the program was halted in 2012 due to the government determining it was ineffective in slowing the spread of the disease to infants.

That decision was based on recommendations of an independent committee of experts. The program was ended well before Hammond was administered the vaccine at the time his baby was born.

The sad irony behind Mr. Hammond’s reaction and the devastation it has brought to his family is that health officials pressured him into receiving one of the most ineffective vaccinations currently in use. Its limited control over pertussis lasts only about two to four years following inoculation, and vaccinated individuals can still transfer the illness to others.

Those most likely to become carriers without showing symptoms are those who are newly vaccinated, meaning the hospital was actually putting the Hammond newborn at greater, not lesser, risk.

The truth about the whooping cough vaccine

Up to six doses are recommended in vaccination programs for children, administered from age 2 months to adolescence. With that many shots, it is reasonable to conclude the increase in whooping cough worldwide is not due to a lack of vaccinations.

Publishing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports results of experiments administering the pertussis vaccine to baboons that shows the vaccination does not stop the spread of the disease. It may have some effect on preventing the disease among those vaccinated, at least in the short term.

However, vaccinated individuals may still become infected with the bacteria without showing signs of illness. Those vaccinated are also able to spread infection to others, including young infants who are most susceptible to pertussis.

The other vaccine dangers brought about by the whooping cough vaccine is that its widespread use seems to have resulted in not only the development of resistant strains, but the development of bacteria that actually favor vaccinated individuals. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers, a majority of the pertussis bacteria strains currently in circulation are the very strains more likely to infect vaccinated, rather than unvaccinated, individuals.

How to resist pertussis naturally

Despite evidence of vaccine dangers and ineffectiveness, public vaccine policies are not likely to change. Institutional shortsightedness, coupled with economics driven by a mammoth pharmaceutical industry, are likely to maintain a stranglehold on any meaningful transformation. The FDA itself, though admitting the pertussis vaccine is ineffective, concluded that the solution was to develop improved vaccines.

There is an alternative. The human body is designed to utilize a capable immune system to naturally resist infectious diseases.
